In an ideal world I would be getting a pre-bonded pair of sows. However, that seems more unlikely.
So, what is the success rate for two sows bonding if they come from the same litter?
Thank you

Actually, I have just answered my own question through further reading. Am I right in understanding that rescue centres will always check the guinea pigs bond well before you are allowed to rescue them or do some leave it to chance?

Any good rescue will make sure that any of the pairs or groups offered for adoption are well and stably bonded, on top of being healthy/fully quarantined, properly sexed and guaranteed not pregnant.

To be honest, the litter sisters I have and have had, have often been on the squabbly side compared to unrelated sows! it is a persistent myth that guinea pigs need to be related to not fall out; in fact, if they can choose each other for mutual liking and character compatibility, the bond is much more solid!
Depending on whether a rescue also has got a neutering policy, you would also consider a neutered boar/sow pair. That is the most stable combination of all once initial acceptance has happened. With a good rescue, you can also confidently look at stably bonded boar pairs, which are often more cuddly than sows, especially adult ones past the teenage hormones. ;)

Of the recommended rescues within your reach, I can warmly recommend Honeybunnies just off the M1/M69 junction. You will be in very experienced and safe hands there!

Hi, sorry to hijack your thread, but couldn't find how to ask a new question.
I adopted two sows from P@H just after christmas which I was hoping to house with my current two girls who are nearly 4. I'm not sure how old the new ones are as they said they weren't given that info but guessed at around 18 months to 2 years.
The problem is I tried to bond them at weekend in a neutral play pen, but it didn't go well. After several minutes one of my older girls and one of the new ones flew at each other with chattering teeth so I panicked and abandoned the session. I did make the mistake of having tunnels and cardboard tubes in there as well as food and straw though. I'm just wondering if I should try again in a bigger space with just food and hay in. I'm new to bonding and not sure if I should have left them longer but was worried they would get hurt.

I have two sows that are sisters. For the most part they get along pretty well and are currently sharing a pigloo and having a sleep together but occasionally they (really just one) will have some hormonally challenged days that really test their bond. I suppose it's like human siblings, most of the time they love each other but sometimes they cant stand each other.
