I know it really isn't pc to stereotype these days but ever since I've been running my guinea pig rescue (which is about 6 months now)
the only people I have rehomed piggies to are women! And in addition to that they are all women in the fortyish age bracket (just like myself), mostly with older children though they want the piggies for themselves of course. To date I've not had one single enquiry from a man. :o Is this the norm up and down the country I wonder !

There does seem to be a theme though, has anybody else got any observations on the matter on this bright and breezy Sunday evening. Would love to hear from those who rehome alot of piggies.

And how many men contribute to this forum?

Little Brambles Guinea Pig Rescue

There are a few men lurking around on the forum somewhere :D.

I guess guinea pigs are seen to be girly? :-\

My OH pretends to have nothing to do with Squeak - but when he thought I was in the shower this morning he went out and got her out to put her in her run and was hugging and stroking her and telling her she was a pretty girl!! ;D ;D Little did he know I was leaning out of the upstairs window listening!

Go on men! Admit it...... you love da piggies! ;D ;D

LOL!

Mike loves the piggies as much as me and wont hesitate in picking them up. Same as one of my brothers who is 24 :)

My dad will speak to them and stroke them if they take an interest in him ::)

I have 3 GP's and I'm a bloke, I also have a lot of other animals too. :)

Yay! Good to hear from you Jake! We like having you around the forums!

Male Guinea Pig fans?

Damn straight. I've had pigs for about 7 years now. They're very endearing beasts. My wife likes them too but never made the connection with them I did. Unfortunately we lost our two with heatstroke at the weekend. :'(. It was an awful accident.

I'm not really sure what I'll do without the little guys.

We're planning on going to Canada next year for a year so we can't 'replace' them (which we couldn't anyway, not in that sense). Plus I've become so allergic to them recently.

I was thinking about volunteering for a local rescue or something.

But pigs are definitely the ultimate man's pet

Another guy right here. Sure the guineas are my girlfriends really, but they are beautiful, and did inspire to build my websites and other things.

Guy here.

I'm a big animal fan in general - we have my four guinea pigs, two cats, one dog, five rats, five baby tarantulas and two ponds full of gold fish and ghost koi.

I wanted to try a new pet as I had the time and the money, and originally I was going to get a hamster - but I found myself getting piggies instead, and I don't regret it at all.

Three of my bloke friends go all gooey around them-they take pictures and film them! One of them recorded their 'I'm hungry' squeak and has it as his message ringtone ;D It's quite funny to see burly blokes go all soft around them.

My OH loves the guineas, harry is like his son! ;D

he doesnt like it here though, he posts on another forum ::)

My son's mates love them too. Its great seeing 17 year olds all dressed in black going gooey over Guineas :)

My boyfriend loves my pigs ;D its funny to see him talking to them when he thinks I'm not looking.

My hubby loves my piggies too and always lets me bring home rescues he chats to them and does things in their cages for them and when he goes shopping he always brings them a treat bless him. I think he draws the line at coming on here tho lol but there is time yet!

My boyfriend is as much in love with our guineas as I am! I'm trying to get him to post on here ;D

Well, I grew up with GP's, and my dad loved them. He thought they were very cute and unusual pets. About a year and a half ago, we got our first GP as a family pet instead of a dog. I have no regrets on that, and we now have added another piggy to the mix. My kids and I absolutely adore our piggies, but my husband doesn't have a whole lot to do with them. He wasn't all that excited about them to begin with, but he was just glad I wasn't insisting on a dog. So he was willing to try it. You know how GP's do as they steal your heart....well, I assumed this would happen with my husband. It hasn't. The only time he has held one is if I"ve put one on him and he didn't have a choice. He doesn't pet it though or anything! And my husband is a sweet guy! He loves cats, so it isn't a "macho", "dog man" type of thing.....Don't know what the deal is.....even his mother who likes to call them "rats" is growing fond of them....Don't know why the resistence! He is very tolerant, but not "crittercrazed" as we all are....oh well. He's the one missing out I guess. Glad to hear from some guys out there though!

Oh wow it's so great to hear from all the lovely guys. 8) 8)

Incredibly today I have had my first call from a fella looking for love!

He has a neutered boar looking for a girlie or two, he's coming over tomorrow for a chat. It seemed so odd as I had posted this only yesterday, just goes to prove you really can't steroetype can you. I only hope the boar finds his dream girl here!

Just goes to show how wonderful piggies really are, they cut across age, gender etc etc.

WE ALL LOVE DA PIGGIES ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My father makes beautiful wooden coffins for mine when they go to the Bridge.

When Scarby died he was distraught. I have never seen him cry like that.

New forum member and also a guy! Been hovering here for a few weeks and decided I ought to join!

The piggies are actually my girlfriends but she has been away travelling for a few months so I have been looking after them in that time and they have been great company :)

Meet Maisie (the blonde) and Moomin (the Brunette)

They are a about a year and half old and are my little ladies :D

guess ill add my say.

Me and my girlfriend own the pigs but i seem to take the bigger interest, dont take me wrong though she absolutly loves them to bits, but so do i :P

My husband and two sons both love Duke and loved Sully too (RIP :'()
Sully was Scott's piggie and Duke is Dee's, errr but i'm the one that does 99% of the feeding etc... ;) ;D ;D
Only yesterday as we were leaving to go out on a picnic, son 21, bent over into the cage and was stroking and chatting to Duke it was sooooo cute :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

What a great post. It is lovely to see so many guys that love guineas. My hubby took a while to like them and still reckons he has no interest. But I'd like to know how the parsley gets into the cage when I've not been there and why she squeaks for treats every time she sees him hmmmm..... ::) ;D
