Hi folks,
I picked up the piggies earlier for some cuddles and noticed they had lots of brown speckles on their fur. On closer inspection I did see some tiny movement. I started a new bale of hay yesterday after cleaning them out so I'm wondering if they've come from that. I just wondered are these lice or are they mites?
I do have some Xeno 450 but I know that doesn't tend to treat lice. I'm hoping they are lice and that I can treat with some Lice n Easy from Gorgeous Guineas but having never had them before I just want to get others opinions on it.
Apologies for the poor quality photos but they were so hard to see!

Any help would be wonderful!

They look typical of static mites (Known as hay mites) They need to be treated by bathing with Lice n Easy or Flea or Die shampoo & repeat a week afterwards to break the cycle. They live on the hay shaft so Xeno etc won't have any effect on them. I would bin that hay & start afresh. Only sterile imported hay (Like Oxbow) won't contain them, so any farm hay is more likely to. :)

They look rather like hay or fur mites that are also called static lice. They are the most harmless of the skin parasites. Static lice seem to mostly turn up in hay in the autumn.
It would be good to see a vet for confirmation and a suitable treatment.

Brilliant, I've got the lice n easy ordered so hopefully that'll shift them.
If not I'll get them to the vets. Bath time for 6 piggies will be fun and games!

Thank you so much for your help!

I get my hay from hay for pets and touch wood ive not had any problems with it. I'm unsure if it is sterile but I've read on here somewhere it may be imported so if that's so it would be, worth checking out their website :) my 9kg bag has lasted my boys neatly 4 months (only used as feeding hay) it's stored properly and checked before I feed it to the piggies :)

Yeah but maybe a bit smaller where do they sell that shampoo?
