Are they naturally protective?

So the new girlies of my group have been running out and about in the garden, I've noticed Maple and Pecan are always with them, and never let them out of their sight. Also whenever they start squeaking one or the other is straight out with them again.

... It so sweet - is this the herd mentality of protecting each other or mothering instinct because its so beautiful to witness x)x)

Aw that sounds so lovely and must be great to see. I only have the two boars who came together but they seem to spend a lot of time very close to each other and are always chattering away. I let them have the run of my bedroom floor the other day and it seemed as if they were calling each other over to see what they had discovered!
