Are you meant to be able to hear them breath?

just wondering cause spunky is breathing quite loudly, but I'm a little worried cause he has a little bit of discharge from his eyes! I really hope he hasn't got some tract infection cause my parents wouldn't pay for vet treatment at the moment! :(

You really need to have him seen by a vet, is he crackling or clicking when he is breathing? The discharge from his eyes and the noisy breathing would say URI to me, does he have a crusty nose? But without proper vet diagnosis he cannot get the treatment he needs, so he will suffer, potentially to death.

It is your parents responsibility to make sure that pets are given the correct treatment and care they need. If they cannot provide this i would suggest surrendering your pet to a rescue and making a donation towards his care.

Please have him seen by a vet, i dont think you want him t suffer, he could be very uncomfortable, he deserves to be made better. Most vets set up payment programmes so that you can pay bit by bit or at a leter date.

You should have been ready for the vet and the vet bills. If you cannot give the proper care to the pet, do not get the pet. In this case you can a) bribe your parents to let you bring piggie to the vet b) have a different adult take piggie to the vet and you pay for it or c) in the worst case, give the piggie to a rescue or rehome the piggie to someone who can take him to the vet. I do not remember any more options, another member may be able to help. I think it is an Upper Respiratory Infection. Treat it while it is not too bad. Guinea pigs go down hill quickly.

If your parents are on any type of benefit i.e - perhaps they work part -time and get tax credits - if they ALSO get any type of housing benefit they probably qualify for free vet treatment at a blue cross animal hospital - if there is not a hospital near you then they would probably pay your vet bill direct (most of it - depending on their funds - and each case is individual ) you can google blue cross and find the info on their website - hope this helps xx

If you speak to your vets they may let you pay off the account, perhaps you could offer to pay some yourself?

HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEKS FOR SPUNKY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My Mum took him down to the vet and he was diagnosed with URI, so I'm giving him Baytril oral twice a day. It was thankfully only $50 (AUS) so it wasn't too bad. It pretty hard to getting to have the medicine though ;D
What does the oral mean?

Oral means it needs to be given in his mouth, so he can eat it thats all :)
