The landlady turned up with my new washing machine... well new as in I haven't had it before... it looks like its from the 1970's but as long as it works its a blessing as I have been without one for weeks now. Anyway she turns up with her husband to replace my broken washer... oh and her 3 young children...

3 young children who were little angels when they came to fix my shower... who today were complete and utter gits! Argh! I love children but not when they terrorise my piggies. They kept picking up bits of hay and throwing it around the cage and leaning right in. I told them not to a couple of times and so I properly told them off the last time mallethead needless to say they started behaving themselves then and I think my landlady was a bit embarrassed that I had to tell them rather than her do it but then she should have been keeping an eye on them malletheadmalletheadmallethead

Nobody hurts my babies!

Ahhhhh children! :)) Sometimes i think 'ooohhh kiddies how lovely, walks in the park, feed the ducks'....then i sometimes walk around asda and see kids throwing tantrums on the floor screaming for something they dont really want and need and thank myself i dont have any :)) haha! Least they weren't staying overnight or for a weekend :))

Hi as a proud of owner 6 pigs, 2 cats, and 2 young children (4 and 6) I would like to comment. My children are used to animals and have been tought from very early on to treat animals with respect and kindness. they are great with any pet now. But...it is MY responsiblity as a parent to teach them. So if you see brattish kids about it is usually the parents that should be blamed....for not teaching them. And usually kids do understand when you explain to them why certain behaviour is not acceptable.
Animals and children can enrich our lives. Thank you.x>>

the woman sounds like she doesnt trust her husbandrolleyes, but to scared to stay at home with those children?/.

not only kids need telling off, my OH gets telling off when he scares the piggies :))rolleyes

Having spent my childhood having comments like *oh arnt your children lovely* thrown at my mother, i truely believe its all about the parenting...
That said, my brother is a brat, so maybe not... :))

I know that. My 3 year old niece is an angel around them

I am quite animal mad even ones i dont like i would see no harm come to yet my 5yr old today says "when I'm bigger I'm guna buy a pet shop" and "if i get a pet and i dont want it no more i just give it away" i have never given a pet away if anything the complete opposite I'm always getting hamsters as people give them to me! I tell my mates kids off tho if they don't treat my animals right

What a nightmare! I can't stand people that don't give their children discipline!

My children have been brought up with animals - we have always had a dog and small furries.

My children are excellent with animals - big or small. My son speaks softly to the guinea pigs and always gives them chin rubs and veggies - he will always help clean them out.

With dogs he is amazing! He has learnt about dog behaviour and even helped me out with a food aggressive dog that was twice the size of him (he was a border collie x great dane) he came up with different ways to feed the dog - and he started hand feeding him and slowly reintroduced his food dish. This was always done under supervision and i always tested his theories before allowing him to do it himself.

My daughter is very different - if she doesn't know how to approach an animal or how to stoke/feed it she will either ask or she will watch my son and copy him.

I have never been to anyone's house with pets and had my children scare them or torment them - if they did they would be disciplined on the spot and sent to stand in a corner!

It really winds me up when people let their children get away with things!

Sadly this is the way children see the world and its such a shame :(

I can understand your feelings. It seems to me that far too many children these days do as they please. Mine were always taught to respect things. I watched them like a hawk if we went anywhere. We had a saying that "if it doesn't belong to you don't touch, unless the owners says you can" and most of the time it worked. We also expected others to leave our property alone unless we invited them to touch. We've always had a whole variety of pets and our children were taught from the word go how to care for and love our animals. They get really cross if they see anybody being the slightest bit unkind to an animal. I'm proud of how my children have turned out and I'm glad I spent hour upon hour trying to teach them good values and right from wrong. Being a parent is hard work but for me the adults that I'm proud to call my son & daughter have made it all worthwhile. rolleyes
