I'm having a corker of a week! ¬_¬ Over £320 of vet bills later, The general consensus is spice has a UTI. However it seems to be a stuborn one! His weight is hovering at 60g less than usual, and as of yesterday he was still makes discomfort noises when peeing. (Not the horrific squeels of pain from last week, but still not normal.) Decided to top up feed today as his weight needs to get back up a little. I have found the perfect mix for spice is about 40ml of softened pellets, 5ml of cow and gate pear and apple pure, 10ml of Ellies carrot pea and pear pure, some crushed baby sweetcorn and some of the little green bobbles from the broccilli florret... this he will take a good 20ml of happily before getting fed up :)

Oh and ofcourse theres the trying to fill him with 100ml of fluids every day, and giving him septrin and metacam twice daily. He wouldnt touch pearl barley water, and even when i tried to force it in it was a no go! But 1ml of the carrot pea and pear added to 20ml of water, and 1ml of pear and apple in 20ml of water, giving 1ml of one, then 1ml of the other seems to be the best way...

I'm so tried of having a sick piggy! I'm going away for 3 days next week. Its my only "holiday" this year, and I'm going to stay with a friend at uni down in bournemouth. I'm really looking forward to it but if spice doesnt get better I'm not sure I will be able to go, As I'm not sure my little sister would be able to give him all the meds he needs (shes looking after them while I'm away) Shes 12, and will be supervised by my grandparents (who will have nothing to do with the small furry rats. lol) Shes perfectly capeable of giving them pellets, veg, hay, clean water, poo sweeping and keeping a general eye on them (esp since I made her a chart. lol). But I'm not sure I would want her to have to give him his meds :(

Rant over...
Thankyou for reading :)

I'm just cross... all year the only time I'm ever planning to be away from them is these 3 days! and nowww! now they are Ill ¬_¬ lol. I'm going away on tuesday morning, So I could give him his meds then, then they would need doing again tuesday evening, wednesday morning, wednesday evening, and thursday morning, and I would be back to do them thursday evening... At a push I could possibly leave him. Only because hes stable, its only antibiotics and pain killers... In theory, he should have finished his course of antibiotcis on monday night, just before I go away.

Hes had an Xray which the vet said was a nice clean bladder (ive since seen the Xray, and I'm amazed as I really thought it would be a stone) Ive also had 2 lots of urine analysis, neither showed any crystals or exess calcium, one showed raised bacteria levels and the second showed a touch of blood (not visible, but still) The urine was also very clear which is apparently good.

This really is the worst week though. :( Its my parents 25th wedding aniversary middle of next week, so they are in wales for the week, and theres a party when they return which we are still running round like headless chickens setting up. See usually it would be fine, mom would give them their meds! but shes away. So my grandparents are comming to look after my brother and sister, but me and my grandparents under the same roof for a week is pushing it, hence why I'm going away. :(

Oh, and I have a uni assignment due on saturday... lol. :)

Will your sister be able to do antibiotics? The additional fluids he can do without. Can I ask, we're you given additional fluids when the vet checked his urine?

I was indeed, He had 25ml of fluid on his first visit (which was the same time as the Xray) the first urine analysis was done on a sample I had collected earlier that day and kept in the fridge.

1 week later he went back to the vets, they managed to collect a fresh urine sample, this is the one with blood in. He was given 50ml of fluids that time, and the septrin. :)

If I ask her to wash all his veg, and make sure they have clean water every day I'm sure he could survive without fluids. Trouble is, I would need to go back to the vet on monday if he still isnt better (and despite this making me poor, because I'm starting to run out of money!) I'm not sure what else they would do.

I expect abby could give him medicen if I got my brother to help her. Its just a case of if she would want too. :/

Oh, and feel free to ask away! I need all the help I can get :)

I asked about the fluids as I noticed with Patrick if I flushed his bladder his urine would be free of Crystals.

It might be worth doing a urine culture if he still isn't clear by Monday but you do have to stop antibiotics for 3 days as it can affect results.

How you gettin to bournemouth? Can you bring him with you? If so drop him to me! I could do my best for you?
