So, I went to take that on friday night (which was fab btw! :)) ) and stayed at my bfs house as its easier to get to.. so, saturday morning i go home, and decided to clean all the hutches, runs, etc out..

Now, as most know, I have had an issue with people trying to break in, threats, complaints etc so first thing i did was check on the furballs!

imagine my surprise to find travis (who is alone til he can go in with the girls) in with stevie and phoenix! thanks god they hadnt fought or been hurt! or that he was in with the girls!

I was so upset, del calmed me down when i phoned him, and said it sounds more like its been kids, (we have suspected for a while that kids have been climbing over the wall to see all the animals) and that they probs just didnt want him to be alone, but even still! I'm fuming, but del says I'm overreacting..

I'm going to b&q tomorrow to get some trellis to make wall higher and some locks for hutches! just wanted to warn others xx

Little s***s, the neighbours who back on to my house (their kids) used to use my back garden as a short cut and they used to go to my pigs and open the hutch doors and leave them open...little gits, luckily my piggies aren't that curious so never went to the doors.
I think you have every right to be angry, they shouldn't even be on your property let alone touch your pets!

thats what angered me so much. I dont have a back gate, they have literally climbed over a wall. I'm having to put a 6ft fence round the front of my house cos ive had all my garden wrecked.. people dont give a cr@p round here! my shed is wrecked from them sitting on the roof too.. no bleeding respect!

the door was open one day and i blamed my own kids, although we couldnt work out when they could have done it. going to have to be extra vigilant. I'm so worried that they could be hurt if it is kids.

i cant have them indoors, and like them being outside anyway getting fresh air, but I'm chewed to bits x

Get a dog, that will give them a shock if they come to bother the pigs and a great big scary looking dog is there, haha!

What are the parents of these kids doing for God's sake?!

can't you buy something sharp to put on the top of the fencing :x but it would keep them off.

that made me laugh cos ive got the police coming back again this week to tell me what i can and cant do to secure my home after another attempted break in. what made me chuckle was i could be presecuted if someone hurt themselves.. what about they shouldnt be there! how stupid! police also told me to keep a roll of wallpaper to hand. If i battered a burglar with a baseball bat for eg that would be excessive force, and they would query why i had it to hand, whereas a roll of wallpaper can do as much damage, but cant be "done" for it. You should be able to do whatever it takes!

my syepdad almost got prosecuted when we walked in to the house being burgled, he grabbed one of the lads and pinned him up against the wall, and called police. the lad then filed a complaint that he was 15 and had been hurt by an adult! the world is crazy! xx

i have a dog, who unfortunatley would lick them to death if he got his hands on them lol

i cant even open my curtains, i hate it here, spend my life being frightened :(

hopefully not for long :) xx

the parents actually encourage sometimes! my windows have been cracked by kids.. one was 2 while the parents looked on and laughed! its disgusting! x

Oh my god...that's awful! I hate it when kids aren't brought up to respect other peoples' property and go around damaging or otherwise messing with it!

We had a similar situation to you a good few years ago now. We think the neighbours kids came under the fence and let out our two rabbits... not caring about the fact that if they were apart there was probably a very good reason for them being apart (in this case, it was a daddy rabbit in one and his daughter in the other...). 4 weeks later you can imagine our (lack of) surprise when lo and behold, we had 4 more rabbits to care for. We were very lucky indeed that we had the space to care for them and they were all right. I dread to think what it would have been like if it were two boys rather than boy and girl.

Some people.

totally agree...world gone mad...it makes me fume.
I have a 13yr old and if I found out she'd even thought about behaving in this manner I give her the shock of her life (Polite way of saying I'd give her a good hiding) luckily I have well behaved children but where I live most of them are horrible.
One lad on the next street went out in his mums car (15 yrs old) and wrote my bf's car off, he drove off and his mum took the blame, they make me sick all they do come 5/6pm is smoke weed, my kids have to come in off the yard cos the smell is unbearable & the police say "we have to catch them at it":{ don't get me wrong I love my house and even the area (I was born & grew up here) but the wild kids are ruining it for everyone, old people are scared, single mums daren't go out, you have to watch what you say and how you act, you can't let people know you have nice things...it's just shocking and all because some parents can't control their kids as they've never disciplined them properly and I don't mean smaking them but just letting them know right from wrong and not having a tv or play station bring them up.
Some kids do go off the rails but 9 times out of 10 I bet it's down to lack of discipline.

Thumbs up on getting the police around. My Dad has a warehouse with an asbestos roof (obviously very high, around 20-30ft?). He is obliged by law to put a sign up saying 'fragile roof crawling boards needed' as otherwise a burgular could sue him if they fell through!

OMG what is this world coming too, it's as if you have to say 'please feel free to rob me but also be aware that the roof isn't 100% safe without extra equipment and we wouldn't want you to hurt yourselves'
Not oh it serves you right for breaking your legs, back, neck etc as you shouldn't have been there in the first place.
It's like no one cares about HONEST people and that crime pays, no wonder kids behave like they do as they have no fear of being prosecuted or punished.
The government seriously need to look at their policies.

I have locks on my cages as well as padlocks securing them to the wall, incase people get stupid ideas! Have you thought about putting trellising along the top of your walls/fence only about a foot of it and growing either some climbing roses or some black berry trees, to grow nice and thickly along it? The reason being is that they have thorns on them all year round and will put people off climbing over your wall/fence. (I'm sure you cant use barbed wire incase someone injurs themselves, as someone I know was forced to remove it by the police!)All you have to do is make sure you keep threadin any neww branches through your trellisin to thicken it up as wellas trim it back a bit as well, that way you get either nice flowers or nice fruit!

I heard a similar case to this a number of years ago. I read once how this man had put his hand either through her car window or front door window trying to steal stuff, he got caught by the police and then tried to sue the woman from who he was robbing from, saying that he cut all his hand up and that she should of had safety glass :o The funny thing is it actually made it to court :o But thankfully the judge threw it out as it was so bloomin ridiculous! The most ridiculous thing is, it should of never made it to court in the 1st place, I mean what is that tellin people 'hey go cut your hand on someones barbed wire or put your hand through theyre window and then sue them!' mallethead

its disgusting!

i dont let my kids play out cos of it, i have very few friiends, apparantly I'm a "snob" because i bring my kids up instead of them being left to "just be kids"

agree with everything, we should be able to protect our own property although we shouldnt need to!

kids round here think drugs is a way of life as a lot of their parents do.

I know i have a lot of pets, but i look after them well, and they (along with my kids) are the things that make me happiest. I actually even enjoy cleaning hutches and cages.. shame same cant be said for myhouse lmao

wanting to move, but property prices mean i would get so little for my house, and now being on esa isnt an option. 2 years til my daughter starts comp, then moving. She can then get bus with her big brother. Bus prices round here are ridiculous.

Saying that, its not just the "rough" areas, my stepsister had a half a million pound house and lived next to kids that kicked a ball off her wall constantly, blasted music and dealt drugs.. guess ignorance and respect isnt defined by class!

I shouldnt have to put padlocks on my hutches! I'm now worried about the bunnies as they have a hutch with run attached, I cant connect it in a way i can still clean out, with locks :( think I'm going to have to do my shed sooner rather than later.

I know i worry bout my furballs alot, but it should be safe to have them in my own garden :( x

you would laugh if you could see the roses and conifers.. doesnt stop them, and at one end they can climb on the shed roof. The trellis is going to be really thin so it would snap if weight was put on it.. hope no one does, and they fall and hurt themselves..oops :))

That's awful, I'd be so scared for them. It's good you're padlocking the hutches anyway. I hope it stops, it must be horrible to live in fear of horrible neighbours :(

thanks, the amount of attempted break ins on my house, i dont feel safe if they are in or out (and unfortunately now living back in my horrible tiny 2 bed house with a 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl i dont have any more room inside anyway)

its just so sad that we cant feel saFe in our own homes :( x

Use prikka strips, they're used to keep cats and people out. If they can't touvh the top of the fencing, not illegal to use them either.

I hate it when parents dont control there kids, I can see why a child may of felt sorry for a lone animal and thought it would be better to put it with another, however they should not of been in the garden full stop and if they were concerned they could of asked why he is alone grrr.

Where I used to live kids used to run through my garden, got the shock of there lifes when my dog nipped one of there bums:red Here kids tease the dog constently by kicking the fence, they have even pulled off one of the wooden panels on the gate, bledy idiots would crap it if she got out at them (she isnt vicious but does bark and growl, though saying she isnt vicious if people are winding her up she could potentially bite them, parents would be wanting her punished for that though!) I seriously think the law needs to toughen up on kids!

That's awful that you have to put up with so much rubbish where you live, a house is meant to be a home, where you feel content and safe, but how can you with kids like that :(
I don't think you are overreacting at all, it's your property they shouldn't have been on it, damn right you should be angry!

On the flip side to you being liable if someone injures themselves on your property, carpark owners are equally liable if your car is damaged despite their signs to the contrary. It's tort law I think. My dad got his car repaired when it was damaged in a supermarket car park by a trolley, no questions asked, he just had to get 3 quotes :) Just useful to know I think, ps. I'm not an expert, just learnt this a few years ago in the law module of an accounting course xox

I love the guinea pig in your display pigture. Will you put up another of him? More of his face? He is adorable.

omg this is awful, how traumatic that you have the constant worry of this, i totally agree, everyone should be able to feel safe in their own place.

Things like this really make me angry grrrr
