Me and My mum thought we'd do a bit of shopping in Mataland. [I think I spelt that wrong] But first I wanted to see all the animals. :smitten: I went to the piggie encloser! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! They're was this gorgeous. Silver Agouti Boars.. With About 6 sows. :( Me and my mum are gonna ring up. My mum didn't want to stay there for much longer. 98) I was like 'Muuuuuuuuuuuum, Can I have him :D' I mean he was gorgeous. I wanted to get him out of there before he causes more trouble. But then I realised. My mum don't want to buy animals from P@H. :'( I thought if I bought a cage. Got him then Rescued a Boar. .. I don't know what to do!?! My mum said I could have guinea pigs. It's just he'll be on his own for a bit. But My mum would hold him. He looked like the type of guinea pig that loves cuddles! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: Hes lovely!

Pets at home had sows and boars mixed? How could you tell? Did you speak to a member of staff?

Personally i would get a bonded pair from a rescue that way you wont have problems bonding and you know what you are getting. :)

I would also get a bonded pair from a rescue. With petshop pigs you just don't know if they are ill or not and pregnant and thats probably not something you want.

:)

Thank louise. :)

Will do. I've pmed anna to see if she had any sows. because my mum fallin in love with a few of them. :smitten:

Some times you would think Honey was a boy when she chases Trinny and Susannah but she definitely is a girl.

Let us know when you get a response from your email. :)

Could have been an older piggie from another litter.

Well, I don't really kno. Anything can happen at P@H. :'( All the degus didn't have food. The chinchilla didn't have sand. I thought they needed. They're massive house bunnie didn't have proper ventalation. :'( :'( My mum was disgusted. :tickedoff:

The house bunnie was panting! :'( :'( :'( :'(

The guidelines with the chinchillas is that they are offered the sandbaths for 30 mins, either once or twice daily, I can't remember which. Too much sand bathing can cause the skin to dry out, I think they actually changed the policy because people were complaining the sand baths were in there all the time!

ETA: I personally say wait and rescue some guineas. If it was bigger than the others, it was probably an older sow asserting her dominance, the younger ones might have just been introduced.

I used to be too timid to speak to a staff member when I saw that stuff needed attention, but nowadays don't hesitate to tell someone when the water bottles have run out, or they can't reach them, or if the animals are being bullied (had to stop a near bloodbath with some fighting boars at P@H a couple of weeks ago, there was already a fair bit of blood in the cage before we got there). If you see something amiss, please don't be afraid to mention it to a staff member - you'll feel much better walking out the shop knowing that it's being seen to rather than unhappy because it hasn't :) We may not be able to stop pets being sold at present, but we may as well monitor as best we can in the meantime!

I did say to my mum. I went you've got to be there because she wanted to phone in and Say. I said that you've got to watch them do it.
Ahh, I go in tomorrow and complain. It's too late now. :(

They had some gorgeous piggies in one today I must confess and I was tempted but I do know better and didn't O0 After all you don't support something you don't agree with do you O0

It's very very tempting to go for a pet shop animal. They're cute, young, need rescuing from a terrible life, accesible (no home check!) - but please don't do it. I was talking to a friend about all my guineas today, and the 3 from pet shops are the ones with the most problems. Not health wise (thank god, touch wood!) but behaviour. They bully others or are redicuously timid. They've all needed a lot of work, and even some aren't right now.

I have two I got from pets at home and they are really scatty and scared but I'm glad i got them because i think if some child bought them in that mental state what would of happen to them, probably left in an outside hutch never to be got out again. I am perserveering with them and they are much calmer now once out, but they still run when cage door is open, but they will get there eventually I'm sure with a bit of time. And another thing they dont eat vedge at the mo because they dont know they suppose to eat it. Ive had them now for 3 weeks and they have gained weight and doubled size so theyre comming on. I'm sure they keep animals in this state knowing mugs like us will buy them just to rescue them

Just to point out, company policy is that the rabbits and guinea pigs should get fresh veg daily - and they are also brought up with fresh veg before they come into store so their stomachs aren't upset when suddenly fed veg (especially in the case of rabbits).

That's interesting - I've never seen any evidence of fresh veg in the cages at my local P&H no matter what time of day I go - only dry pellet food.

Nore me, and have have 2 both about 3/4 miles from me and I go in once a week and there has never been any evidence of it being given. ::)

When I worked there, the rabbits and guineas on the shop floor were the first to be cleaned out (i.e. 7:30am) and thus first to be fed - it was very rare that there was any veg left by opening time.

Why don't you ask the staff in your store if the guinea pigs get vegetables - if they say no, then send a letter to head office - because it is policy that they should get it :)
