Arthur has a little lump above his nipple under the skin, its small like the size of a pea if that, I'm hoping its nothing serious but will give the vet a call tomorrow to get an appointment. Anyone else have any advice on this? His weight is the same his coat is still shiny but his eyes are a little watery but his eyes have been watery on and off for ages and I cant seem to stop them, it may be the hay I had been using so have changed back to my old supplier now.

It could be anything really. Piggies are prone to fatty lumps that are benign so fingers crossed it's nothing sinister.

I have a pig with lumps, the vet initially tried to do a biopsy which came back inconclusive (I've since heard a few people say similar so not sure how reliable biopsies are for this matter). Peter ended up having an operation to remove a couple and the lab found they were only benign which was a lovely thing to hear.

Keep us posted on what happens

Thank you, hopefully he will be fine but I will let everyone know :)

Sending healing vibes. Could be a bit of mastitis? I know Kell on here, one of her lads had mastitis and it formed in abscess like lumps around the nipples. It cleared up well with a long course of antibiotics and draining them.

Ooo Oki ill look into that and see thanks for the tip

Any lump needs to be checked by a vet, especially if they are near a nipple. The vast majority are thankfully harmless and sitting loose in the skin.

WP_20150319_001.webp so this is Arthurs vet face hehe bless him such a grump! Anyway just got back from the vet, she says the lump doesn't feel tumorous or like a growth, but more tubular, she even wonders if a foreign body has got into the skin and this is just tissue build up around it. So no meds for now just going to keep a close eye on it. I have no idea what could have gotten into his skin though so I am a bit worried, although the vet pointed out that although I've had him a while it could have been from before I adopted him and just taken time to react. I dunno, anyone have any thoughts on this?

Oh dear I'm sorry never come across anything like this. Did they not suggest any investigations to find out what it is/what they can do?

Well the vet didn't want to do unnecessary surgery or anything but if it grows or causes him pain or problems then she will.

Foreign body is most likely a hay seed/wood splinter from bedding that has penetrated the skin. It can happen but is rare

However please don;t rely on this diagnosis. Good you are going to keep a close eye - I personally would be concerned and hyper-vigilant as the most commonly occurring lump on/near a piggy Boar's nipple is found to be, on biopsy, a fast-growing mammary tumour.

I will keep an eye but the vet was very confident that it did not feel like a tumour she said it didn't have the right shape or form and felt like it was only deep enough to be in the skin it didn't feel like it was a cyst or tumour. Poor Arthur had never been poked and felt like that before he was uncomfortable but such a good boy. My vet is very good I trust them as they specialise in ferrets etc but ill keep you all posted on Arthurs progress
