Pound Shilling & Pig
Adult Guinea Pig
Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience of this with their piggies?
for the past week or so one of piggies, Buttercup, has started wheezing. she doesn't do it all the time but when she does it is very obvious and when not doing it her breathing is 100% normal and she is otherwise well.
it seems to me she only does it when the temperature drops and if given a snugglesafe to sit on after a while the wheezing will lessen and then stop.
she has been to the vets ... no wheezing there as it was very warm and her chest sounded fine on exam.
my piggies live in a heated shed which i like to keep at just below 15C. sometimes the temperature drops a little lower when the door is open to allow in fresh air, which is when she will start to wheeze. all the other piggies carry on as normal.
i have today ordered a dehumidifier, hoping this will help. Buttercup is about 3&1/2 and not over weight.
i have kept piggies for many years but have not come across this before. it does not present like a *.r.i or phenmonia but more like asthma ... wheezing and having to puff when breathing out.
any thoughts?
