Hello,

I don’t know where to start with their burrowing. They are turning the cage upside down by doing it. My fleece is not long enough to clip to the sides. What do you recommend I do as a make shift? I can’t really put stuff in the corners because of the way the cage is setup and blocking spaces for exits etc

Please help, thankyou

The only thing I can think of is putting a fleece blanket over the top of the liners and clipping that to the cage or throwing a blanket into the cage and hoping they burrow under that rather than under the liners.
Berty used to burrow under his liner, I realised he was after chewing the tape that was holding two pieces of Corex together. I removed the tape and he didn't bother anymore.

Hello that’s what piggies do don’t they …turn their home upside down 😂
You could try a cardboard box stuffed with hay and they might burrow in that ?
I put a towel over a log tunnel and both of them love hiding there
Good luck

Thankyou all, I’ve got some small pebbles to weigh down the corners that someone suggested. I feel bad, but one is struggling to get out once she’s in there! I’m gonna get some hidey tunnels etc extra as well.

They can’t eat them their flat hand sized pebbles and I’ve washed them good. Isit ok for them to nash into do you think?

Thanks

I've never had a burrowing pig myself but know others have bought cheap pet fleece blankets or scraps and given them several to snuggle into.

I ended up ordering a custom made one (2of them) from c and c cosies. Brilliant and uses that zorb material. It’s much thinner and wicks brilliantly. I have it pinned on top of the correx now. I will see how much it shrinks, but I tried catering for that when I sent measurements :)

Esme was my most determined underground piggy. She was happiest underneath her snuggle fleece blanket and at times totally wrapped up in it. I used a small tunnel as an easy 'entrance' and just draped it back whenever needed. Or share it with her best friend on a cold winter night.

You can see Esme's head just about peeking out.

She is succeeded by my Llinos, who has fiercely contested the inheritance... :D

Wild guinea pigs sleep in little personal tunnels/crannies in the thick long grass undergrowth, close to each other in the group but not at all snuggled up unless they are nursing mothers or have a very close relationship. Guinea don't have dens, nests or setts.

This snuggling instinct goes very deep. Giving a piggy that loves snuggling somewhere to 'burrow' safely in a cage setting counts as enrichment and stimulation of their natural instincts.

Aww haha, I can see her little head poking out. She’s marked that area as hers 🤣…

Yeah, I think I’m going to have to try something like you setup and see. I need a bit of a revamp in there!

I would recommend that you wait until the heatwave is over or rather peg a damp sheet over the cage or a cage area so the evaporating water cools the air underneath.
