At The Pet Store Today

A mom and her two girls were looking at the GP. There was only one in the cage and I said oh there were a whole bunch the other day. I feel bad only one is left as they should be in pairs. We got talking about cages and I showed her mine and told her about the sizes they need ect.

Then the guy brings another big one out from the back. They step into this room and I lol. Knock on the glass door and call her away from him and show her a couple of rescues I found in the area with already bonded pairs. They were going to get boys and wanted to start with one and I gave her the short version on introducing new boys and how it's harder.

She looked at some of the pigs in rescue and went awwww at a couple pairs. I hope they decided to go there instead.

But then I feel bad for the big boy at the store he must have been in the back, he was out on the floor last time and he was fighting with another big boy. He is probably going to be shipped back to the mill and be put to sleep

I feel so sad about it!

it's such a dilemma but you have more than likely saved this family a lot of grief by encouraging them to get a bonded pair AND helped other guinea pigs by encouraging them to get them from a rescue.

Although this does not help the guinea pig in the shop, if he had been sold to this family, the pet shop owner would simply order more in to go through the same thing again.

The really sad part is that he had been at the pet store a long time. There had been two the same size and I saw them fighting they had the two big ones in with 3 small pigs in a cage to small for one. I wrote to corporate about it and the next time I was in they had moved the two big ones into separate cages with a small one each. But now I think they got a chinchilla in and so the big ones had to go as they needed the other space for it.

I'm sure they're on the way back to the mill as now there was only one small one out on the floor. I'm sure next time I go in there will be more small ones also. I guess either way they will be getting more small ones in he was a pretty calico colored Abby.
