This week is Reading Week for my university which means no school! I decided to take a trip to see my g/f who lives 600 miles away in Illinois (I live in Ontario).
This left me with the question of what to do with Athena. I really didn't want to leave her with my parents as they refuse to keep her in anything but her original tiny cage and I don't trust them to keep an eye on her ongoing tummy troubles.
My g/f came up with a solution: we would bring her with us. My g/f was going to drive to pick me up so we would just make room for Athena in the truck for the journey.
Of course we checked with the US customs website to make sure that she could cross the border and on finding that it shouldn't be an issue we decided that is what we would do.
So on Thursday I got all of Athena's stuff together: her kibble, her meds, fleece, portable run and hay. That night B arrived and the next day we all set out on the 10 hour journey to B's house.
We set up the portable run across the back seat so she would have room to run around. We attached her water bottle and put her bowl and house in it to make her feel nice and comfy. I gave her hay and some cucumber at the start of the journey.
For the next 3 hours I worried about whether they would let her cross the border but it all worked out fine because she was just behind us it was easy to keep an eye and an ear on her. For the first half of the of the journey she sat munching away at her food and didn't seem to care that she was in a moving vehicle.
The second half of our journey was made in the dark and she seemed to spend most of it sleeping. At one point I was a bit worried because I hadn't heard from her in an hour, and at this point the cucumber I had cut up at the beginning of the journey had started to smell funny from not being kept cold enough. So we went to a McDonald's and ordered a side salad for Athena, this seemed to rouse her and by the time we had gotten to our destination she had eaten the whole thing.
Once we got to B's house we set up Athena's run, which she spent all day yesterday popcorning in:)) Of course she also got lots of cuddles from not one but *two* slaves.
Over all Athena did amazingly well over the long drive. I think she may have even survived it a little better than I did!

That's a great story! I love that you ordered a side salad for her! :rose

Hee hee :)) Great adventure for you all. Funny how we worry ourselves sick over things and our little ones are totally oblivious.
