Junior Guinea Pig
Our dearest Ted,
You joined us two years ago along with your wives Frida and Coco from the lovely Frau M. at the rescue and completely melted our hearts ever since.
Raddichio, coriander and chin rubs were a few of your favourite things. Times when your wifeys would bicker or steal your food, or when our children would squeal loudly with delight holding you or showing you off, you always managed to exercise such tolerance and patience. You were a true gent.
But one week ago you became desperately and suddenly ill. It was frustrating the vet not finding out what was wrong exactly then going down the wrong track with an incorrect diagnosis. Sorry we lost you that precious time. In your last days, we and the vet did everything we could to help get you get better from this sudden and confusing illness but by then we fear you were too weak.
Last Saturday night, when you started to refuse to swallow your syringe feed, I pleaded with you to at least swallow your pain meds - and you obliged, thank goodness.
You left us the following day at 5pm and when we felt you were drawing your final breaths, we lay you next to your wives who stayed by your side as you slipped away.
Later, holding your little body and while consumed by grief, I still managed to feel grateful. Yet even today all our hearts remain heavy. Frida and Coco are a little subdued but otherwise well and we are cherishing our moments with them and Tux since your departure has reminded us how precious life is and how unexpectedly it can be taken away.
Rest in peace Ted to wander free in piles of hay and fields of coriander surrounded only by love.
