Our adopted piggie, Pickles, has just had 3 babies. They are now one week old and weigh as follows:

Cinammon: 90g (3.17 oz)
Nutmeg: 125g (4.4 oz)
Saffron: 130g (4.58 oz)

I'm a little worried about Cinammon as s/he (not sure of sex yet ?/) seems significantly smaller than others. S/he is eating and active, although not as vigorous or as well developed as the other two. Pregnancy as a result of family being kept together too long. Pickles's only about 4 or 5 months old herself, and father is her brother.

This is the first time they've been weighed so can't judge rate of weight gain yet. Will be weighing every couple of days now to check growth.

Most info on weight is for adults - do these weights seem within the range of normal for babies? Would really appreciate any feedback on others experiences.

All your babies are a healthy weight and coming along nicely, even Cinnamon! Babies are ideally born between 70-100g; and yours have started to put weight on. Cinnamon will problably always stay a bit smaller and be slower at growing, but that won't keep it from leading a happy life! As long as Cinnamon is accepted by its mummy, there should be nothing severly wrong with it!

For sexing pup, here are a couple of links. Have another good look at three weeks, when you need to separate any boars. If necessary, have them checked over by a vet as well at that age, if you are not 100% sure.

PS: I'm looking forward to pics - we're suckers for cute little babies on here! Make sure that mummy gets a good varied diet with plenty of vitamin C and some tlc after weaning.
I had a (shop bought) mum of a very similar age once, and she was absolutely fine; but I was as worried about her as you are right now.

Quoting from one of Peter Gurney's books 'the average healthy birth weight can be 2 1/2 oz -4 oz' ,so converted thats about 70g -100g,so I reckon your little ones were close to that at birth.Oh and by the way Congratulations on the new arrivals!

Congratulations on the babies xx
As the others have said - they do seem healthy weights. When Gerty had her babies they were all very small & Tiny weighed less than 40g - she is now the biggest of them all :))

Thanks for all replies - very reassuring. Little Cinnamon seems to be getting more and more active and healthier looking by the day, so feeling a little less concerned.

Will try and get pictures and post on forum.

I would say that the little one is average weight, it is the other two that are big...could be heading for 3lb as adults!
