C&C Cage

I think I'm going to get this, it's got two stories, and it perfect for two piggies {or at least I hope.}

What do you think?

it's a nice cage,but having an upper level actually takes away space! i think this one is slightly too small, i'm sure two piggies have to have a 2by4 cage? my four girls are in a 3by6, but i'm adding sonny to the tribe once he's been desexed

I was looking at that also, but it wouldn't fit in my bedroom.

The minimum for two is 7.5 square feet.

7.5 square is 3x2 which is your bog standard cage. Once they grow they will need more room. The required space is 10.5 which is 4x2. If you can build a second level then go for it, I did that, granted it does take some space away but you are giving it back on the next level, well I think that anyway. :)

The recommended minimum for a C&C cage for pigs is 2 grids by 3 grids (not 2 feet by 3 feet as each grid measures more than a foot) so that cage would be fine if it didn't have an upper level because the ramp takes away space from the ground floor.

http://www.guineapigcages.com/ shows the requirements - if you look at the column for 2 pigs you'll see the minimum for two pigs is 7.5 square feet (2x3), preferably 2x4 (10.5 sq feet).

7.5 square feet is bigger than most store bought cages and a damn sight bigger than a lot of hutches I've seen!

I know it doesn't make sense that an extra level takes away space, but speaking from experience with various multi-level C&Cs, it really does. The ramp means at least one grid square is going to be eliminated from the floor space in the cage. Are you absolutely sure you can't move anything around in your room to make that bit more space? It does make a lot of difference.

A 2x3 C&C IS better than a store bought one, so it is the best possibility you have worked out at the moment. It's great to see you doing so much research and preparation! :)

I have a c&c cage and wouldnt have one without the upper level, yes granted it takes away a little space but to be honest they gain more and have much more fun wiht an upper level! Behind the ramp are the piggie bed area so its not wasted space and mine love to hide and snuggle under the ramp, they would br devastated if i took the ramp away!

I would suggest though having a larger cage to give that extra area. Here is link to mine

Go for it in my opinion!

Hmmm.

So if I got the 2 x 4 with the 2nd level, would that be fine for two piggies?

Or should I just get one level?

I am planning to build a C&C cage for my two piggies shortly and I was going to go for a 4x2 with an upper level but I was planning on attaching the ramp to the top of the wooden house that they currently have in order to stop the problem of losing space. My two happily jump onto the top of the house so I can't see it being a problem. May be a way around for you also if you are concerned about losing space, especially if you can only fit a 3x2 in.
