I have 4 local B&M bargains close by and they’ve all stopped selling meadow hay which is a problem for me as that’s the hay I use :( Is it the same in other B&M’s around the Country? Can anyone recommend any high street shops that sell good quality hay?

My local B&M have it sometimes then not others which can be annoying when you rely on it!

I have had to buy from Pets at Home as it's 2 shops down - which has been nice to be honest...

I have got some really good hay from Wilko's, Sainsbury's and Asda but as with all hay I've found there has been a mix of quality between bags 😒 I got caught smelling bags of hay in pets at home last night. I'm not even sorry... 🤪 I'm tired of getting home and its mouldy in the middle!

I once took a bag back to B&M cos it was disgusting - the girl behind the counter had to take it out the back straight away as it STANK...

OMG! That must have been bad! I've never had them that bad just damp and smelly or full of thorns and stones or plastic threads, only really noticeable when I've opened it and emptied it in our hay bin. I've never taken any back I probably should.
I've found it you squeeze the bag and smell you can spot the bad ones. I just look crazy doing it 😅

I get most of mine from Nature's Own on line but if I'm getting low I go to B&M. The Range or Pets at Home. I have a good look and sniff before I buy from any shops though as I've had some dreadful hay from all of them over the years. Our Pets at Home has dreadful quality hay at the moment, it's tiny bits and very dusty, someone I know has just bought some and taken it back. Our B&M seem to get intermittent supplies, my piggies sometimes have the Timothy Hay as a treat, it goes off the shelf as fast as they fill it.

If you’re able to, ordering it in bulk from timothyhay.co.uk is really great. Best hay I’ve ever bought and lasts forever. I bought a 9kg bale for £20 in May and it’s still going strong in August!

If you’re not able to order online I recommend the hay from The Range

I'll always recommend the Nature's Own hay, I've yet to find better. The only problem with it is that you're much better off getting several bags at once and sometimes that just isn't feasible.

I keep them under the bed @Lorcan we used to keep them in the shed but I had to throw one away this summer as it got too hot and sweated in the bag and went musty.

I had some timothy from here, it was lovely hay but it came in one big bag, once it was opened it was hard for me to store.

When my old flat was refurbished (long before I moved in, though) they moved the kitchen and they never took the old cupboards out...so I used to stack up the hay in there. Couldn't have done that with bigger bags but for the 1kg bags it was perfect. But then not everyone can use 1kg bags at a time because there's too many pigs for that. Swings 'n roundabouts.

I thought about ordering from timothyhay but their delivery policy looked a bit vague and we often aren't home during the day! We like Haybox as they give you a scheduled day for delivery and a one-hour delivery slot from dpdx courier, plus the option to easily change it online to a convenient day for free if you wont be home.

Mine go through a very dry spell with hay. Haven't seen meadow in ages. Just seen the Timothy again though after about a month. The range I tend to use now. Very reliable with stock and better quality

We like to buy 2 to 5kg packs for 8 pigs, I like to mix up the hay types and I usually have a pack of timothy and a pack of meadow hay on the go at once! I don't think I'd be happy feeding hay that had been opened and lying about for more than 3 or 4 weeks as half my house is damp and the other half is sunny and we don't have any big storage spaces...
I get very anxious about hay and running out so we order both timothy and meadow from both Haybox and from Amazon every month so there's always plenty hay!

I was going to order from here but was not sure what the quality would be like. What type of hay did you get from them?

I get their regular Timothy Hay and I would always choose it over any pet store hay. It’s super long stranded and doesn’t stick to my piggies’ fleece, so makes cleaning a breeze. It’s the greenest hay I’ve ever had and my pigs won’t eat anything else. But, as mentioned by @piggieminder, unless you have the space, it might be difficult to store because the hay comes in such massive bales. I store mine in a massive bin in my garage. I use a pop up bin to store some of it upstairs so it’s easier to feed the pigs, and I fill it up whenever it’s empty.

I find that B&M Bargains do not have regular stock of the bags of hay priced at £1.99 which I have been buying for a few years. I keep going in and asking if they have discontinued it but they always say it may come in but they never know what will come on. Also, I buy the puppy pads as hutch liners and the availability (or should I say the non-availability) is the same.

I guess the best thing is to bulk buy if you can when the hay is in store.

I think someone is bulk buying from my local b and m. One day there's a full shelf, the next there is nothing left.

I asked a member of staff when they will get the next hay delivery in, and the she replied.... "what is that?" so I gave up

I think I’m that person who stocks up. They didn’t have the meadow hay yesterday but they had the Timothy hay so I cleared the shelf. Luckily my parents were with me so we could all carry it to the car 😉 I’m still disappointed though that they seem to have stopped the meadow as it was £1 cheaper than the Timothy 😆

Hi everyone. Bob Martin hay is really good. My local Asda sells it. Tesco hay is also good. B&M hay is poor quality.

This is what mine are eating at the moment, this quality is consistent as well. They do have some brown rubbish ones on the shelf but they always have loads of bags in stock. Their meqdw isn't bad either, but I do keep finding thorns in it
I just popped in after seeing someone mentioning hay from the range on here... quite impressed... and yes mine had loads of stock... i did give it a squeeze and a sniff first tho!

The B&M one is a different make and addatives, I buy it as a treat for mine occasionally. The Range one has dandelions in it and that is one of the things I have been told to feed sparingly to my bladder pigs, you can't tell how much they are getting when it's mixed in the hay. I buy the Nature's Own plain meadow hay direct from them on line, they also sell the five a day hay and the meadow cookies, delivered free if you spend a certain amount, much easier than lugging big bags of hay home!
