Hello,

I have recently got two baby boys. The place I got them from sold their own guinea pig food which they had been brought up on. I bought some of that and continued to feed them on it with fresh fruit and veg.

I had a few reservations about the food so I have also tried

guerty guinea
supa excel pellets
science selective pellets

they only seem to eat the original food.

however recently they are not eating half as much of that and they are not even touching their veg.

so I have two questions:

1) any ideas as to why they aren't eating so much
2) is the food they do eat ok?

it is blueberry warren mix 2 'all natural food'

it contains

lucerne, flaked maize, oats, flaked peas, barley, flaked barley, wheat feed, maize, gluten, soyal oil, oatfeed, wheatstraw, soya hulls, extract of sunflower, rice bran, freeze dried grass, Vit C, Vit A, Vit D3, Vit E, copper as cupric Sulphate.

Oil 3.1%, Protein 11%, Fibre 13% or more, Ash 8%

is this food ok?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

It is very unusual for guinea pigs to not eat veg I would be concerned that they are unwell. Perhaps a trip to the vet to rule anything out. Guineas hide illnesses and the first thing you notice when they are poorly is they stop eating.
Don't worry about the dried mix it makes up 5% of the diet I have mine on Excel, museli makes them select feed and they don't get all the nutrition they need.

Hope the little guys are ok!

would take your babies to the vet, they may have teeth problems. you could try feeding them their usual feed and slowly add something else and slowly add more of the new feed and less of the old until they are eating the new feed. have are the babies now? hoping they have picked up. sending hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: you could try them on fresh grass and see if they will eat that.
