Well Pebble is 3 weeks on Sunday.
I have been trying to bond him with another boar ready for his separation at the weekend. Tyrone my older boar keeps trying to mount him when they meet. Now Pebble is trying to mount his sisters and mum. He weighs 203g and not 3 weeks old yet.
Not really sure what to do with him come Sunday. Not keen on Tyrone mounting him. X

Hi! It is very likely that mum coming into season around 16-17 days after birth has woken up his hormones. That is pretty common.

Baby boys don't get hurt by adults because they are a lot more agile, but it is advisable to have a little safe space in the bonding arena that a baby can escape to but not the adult, be ita small tunnel or a cardboard with two baby-sized exits on opposite sides. If it is a consolation to you, I have bonded several times 4-5 weeks baby girls with a piggy group, including a an adult husboar. Both babies are now thriving adults themselves. One of them is the little baby in my avatar picture; she's now 5 years old. ;)

Please take the time to read through this guide. If you can, let Tyrone and the boy have meetings through the bars in the coming days so acceptance is much easier.

hiya @Wiebke

Thank you that does reassure me. I have made some safe hides and will get some tunnels this afternoon that are only Pebble sized.

I'm hoping Tyrone will appreciate the company as he can hear all the girls and see them through the bars and he gets very excited. I will put him and Pebble in a girl free room after the weekend x x

If you can, please let Tyrone and Pebble meet through the bars before an introduction. Rub both boars with the same cloth to transfer their scent onto both bodies.

Thanks they have met loads now. Tyrone is more interested on biting on the bars. I will try that. I wont leave them alone together until I am sure all is fine. Yikes fingers crossed they like each other and Pebble doesn't miss willow too much :( xx

Pebble will be happy with any company he can get! The question is whether Tyrone will be happy to have him. If they have met before and are acquainted, move Tyrone to the other room on his own for a day or two, so he will be happier about getting company. Do the introductions on a neutral space and not in his cage.
You will see some dominance behaviour, as every newly weaned baby is comprehensively pushed to the bottom of the ladder once it loses its protected status as a nursing pup.

Good thinking. Thank you. I bought a puppy playpen for the introduction they can even stay in there overnight at 1st if they are getting on. Give tyrone chance to forget his old surroundings xx

Well obviously guinea pigs are very agile in general as what I thought was only a Pebble size hole turned into Tyrone size hole too lol so far so good. They have stopped chasing each other for a minute. Tyrone keeps circling Pebble and walking over the top of him. Is this ok? Pebble is choosing to leave the safety of his box for this to happen. X x

Nice to see the boys together and bonding pen looks good! Walking over Pebble sounds normal boar stuff, if pebble is small enough to fit under Tyrone. Pebble is so young and fast that he will get out of the way if he needs to.
Ps. I have a small tube that you can have which is too little for my big boars.

It was tidy until they got I there lol.

That would be fab thank you laura. I could pop over after half term with Panda and you can look at his/her bits again :) x

@Elisabeth Yes that sounds like a plan, danger of pignapping Panda though....
Good luck with boys, there will be a lot of chasing this first weekend but they should settle soon as Pebble will be submissive to Tyrone, it just looks a bit alarming to us humans! Are they having times of eating together?

Well I have been supervising lots and Pebble wants to be near Tyrone but Tyrone really isn't into this company malarkey. I was going to leave Pebble in overnight but noticed a cut on his ear. So he back with mum. I think he would be safer with my two boys as they are so placid rather than with Tyrone.

@Stewybus can you help me please? I am too faint hearted for this bonding or maybe Tyrone just prefers his own company as he did get rather nasty with his brothers. I would love for Tyrone and Pebble to bond but not sure if it's even possible. X x

Usually with older boars & baby boars it's an easy bond as the baby is frightened & will hide behind the older boy for protection. The older boy will see the younger boy as no threat so they end up together & then become friends. There are always exceptions to the rule though. I would do as Wiebke said, put them in adjoining cages so they can see, smell & talk to each other & then try them together again. It's best to start early on the day when you can be with them all day long.

If it doesn't work at all & you don't have space for another full time cage we could give him a place here & I'm sure we'd find him a friend who would appreciate his company x

I dont want to part with him and would get the baby a companion if needs be. I have tried and read what to do to bond them but I think because of Tyrone's track record not sure it's going to work out.
It would just be so much easier if they bonded. Do you have space and time there please to bond them or try and I could pay for boarding. I just don't want Pebble to get hurt. X x

I'm full to the brim at present and just managing to get the rescue work done as I'm currently spending several hours a day on syringe feeding 2 poorly piggies x

awww bless you. Hope the piggies get better soon.
I will try again tomorrow but with bars between them rather than in a playpen.
I am sure the other boys would be great with him but dont want it to interfere with their bond and dont want to leave him with mum too much longer for obvious reasons x x

I know I will persevere a bit longer. He is a great little character and is really cuddly but he is used to living with his mum , 3 sisters and Auntie. Being alone in a cage next to Tyrone is going to be heartbreaking until/if they bond xcx
