Baby Boy Left On Own After His Brother Died Today,help!

Hiya I need a bit of advice,only about a month ago we adopted a trio of boars(9ish week old brothers) we named Mickey,Pluto and Goofy. After a while Mickey became very aggressive towards others and was actually biting them so we took him back and then today after an eye infection we lost our little Pluto.We are heartbroken but Odviously now worrying for Goofy. He's around 15weeks now and have had mixed opinions as to whether to get another to put with him.I think he will need a friend as he's so young and he will be lonely but he's a v anxious and jumpy boy since mickey so we really need to get this right. Any advice as to what sex and age we could match him with?Thanks

If he's been with boars then anether boar could possibly work but if you don't want to possibly face a fall out in the future then a sow could also work. However, getting a sow would also mean you'd have to neuter your little boy. @Tim if there is a rescue nearby they can give you guidance and probably set up a date when you can take your piggy and let him pick a friend.

Hi Tim,we live in Swindon.Iv found a few rescue centres but most near me don't have any Guinea pigs in at mo. I'm reluctant to adopt them from pet shop as that's what we did before.

I'm wondering if we should wait a little bit until he's over a year to get him a friend as iv heard that for boars the 3-18 month period is when they going through "guinea pig puberty"-sorry don't know how else to put it(being a teenager) and that's a v sensitive time to put another Piggie into the mix as they are v hormonal . Iv heard that when they get to 2 years or older that adding a baby could work as they don't see them as a threat?

Go rescue & they will find a match for you. It is very rare that a trio of boars work out, which is why one was biting if you have a lone boar go for another if you have 2 boars it wouldn't work as you would have to get 2 girls, neuter the boys & put them in separate cages. Otherwise the boars would fight.

If your boar goes off his food and is lonely you must get him a friend. ASAP by taking him to a rescue & bonding him

I agree that finding a companion for him would be the best option - but , not all guinea pigs get on so , it is best to wait until you can find a rescue that can offer help with bonding.

Guinea pigs are social animals and need companionship, but it is not quite as easy as just plonking another piggy in the cage.
