Little tiny Cozzie has an abscess. I am so glad I have him so I can look after him properly. Some people would not have noticed or if they had, wouldn't have done anything.

Roger has drained it with a needle. Cozzie is far too tiny for surgery. He was very brave. :smitten:

fingers crossed its gone now but at least you are in good hands little sweetie and hope you get back to normal quick your mummy loves you so much kissy for a big brave boy :-* :-*

It's on his neck - horrible place as so near the carotid artery. I imagine I will have to get it drained several times before it goes away.

Why are guineas so prone to these horrible abscesses?

they are awlful things aren't they? and malaclussion of the teeth seems to be my biggest problems cysts I can cope with myself with success every time but abcesses are nasty, poor biccy had one each end, the vet said the reason they get it in the neck is becasue a food or hay piece gets stuck in their throat and an abcess develops from it, one of mine had a piece of wood she had chewed off of her shed wall they found it in the abcess when they opened it up ugh

You're right! I remember when Scarby had one Roger said that about the hay causing it.

Darling little Cosmo we're sending you healing wheeks and oh so tiny kisses and cuddles for you and mummy to help you get better quickly :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

how is the little man doing hope hes feeling better poor little thing gentle kisses for him :-* :-*

Ah, thanks everyone :smitten:

Poor little love. It came up again today. I plagued Kate and Kelly with texts and they advised me to go back to Roger. So I went tonight. He drained it again with a larger needle (leaving a hole for me to squeeze). Cozzie is also on antibiotics of course and probiotics.

Problem is the little love is so upset he won't let me near it to squeeze. Although bigger, the hole is still very small. I think we'll have to get it drained by Roger again at the wheekend.

Poor little thing! On the brighter side it seems that he has a dedicated mum and vet who want to take care of him :)

Hope Cosmo is feeling better soon.

I hate having to do anything to them which upsets them! I also think they pick up on the fact you are worried and in turn it makes them worse. Not sure what to advise you. I would be tempted to keep going back to Roger to get it done.

Poor little Cosmo! Hope he feels better soon :-*

I think you're right. I'll go on Fri or Sat. How many days do you think it is OK to leave the abscess between squeezings? Cozzie is eating well, drinking, bouncing etc and seems happy until I go near it.

Its good he seems happy in himself and is eating and drinking well. :)

Maybe you should give Roger a call and ask his advice about leaving it til you get back in to see him.

I really keep thinking I need to find myself a vet as a boyfriend - I could then have my own live in vet! It would make life so much easier! Is Roger married? LOL

Do you think we should have Vets R for U service?
I'd love a vet 24/7 just for Duke

Awwww Cossie we're sending you heaps of little kisses and hugs but huge loves to you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

hope between you and Roger you get rid of this damn abcess they really are awlful things and for a pig so young its even harder to bare, keep us updated are you using hibiscrub it helps kill off the bugs causing the pus to come back?

Darling brave Cozzie let me drain it at home at last. Loads came out. He was marvellous. :) :smitten:

I bet you could get hold of hibiscrub L, they use it in doctors & dentists - its a bright red kind of disinfectant soap. You only need about a teaspoon of the stuff mixed in with water then use it to flush out the abscess.

Update - the abscess is very very small now. Got a little more out this morning and got the worst guinea bite of my life in excahnge. ;D

I hope it wasn't too painful. Spike bit me on the end of my finger once and it drew blood. Was a bit difficult typing for a couple of days :(
