My guinea pig gave birth yesterday to 5 piggies 4 of which are doing well and the other 1 isn’t. It is weak (especially its legs) and it has never nursed apart from when i had to try put its mouth on the nipple but that was only for a few seconds before it let go. I'm not sure if its trying to find the nipple cause when i place it next to where the nipple is it starts to look around or it might be just trying to find a warm spot under her mother? Whenever i place it somewhere it just sleeps it never really opens its eyes while the others are starting to move about. I dont know if this is important but some of the umbilical cord is still attached and it’s ear has a little cut like the mother accidentally bit it off or something. Sometimes when they’re all in one spot of the cage and the mother moves to another its siblings follow and the poor thing gets trampled on and left upside down. Today I tried to give it water through a syringe because i havent seen it drink anything and i dont want it to get dehydrated and it was sucking that a for a little then went back to sleep.

So much questions like Do i have to hand feed it? Is it going to die? Do i have to wait for it to start walking?

And just to mention the mother guinea pig started to have blood come out from her genitalia it looked like pee but it was red?

I really need help with this please i dont want it to die if you have any information please tell me

I’m not a “professional” like any of the members here but I may be able to give a small amount of advice.
It sounds like the weaker piggie was squished by its siblings inside mumma’s tummy. I would suggest placing it on your lap and gently massaging its legs to allow more blood flow, which should hopefully help it walk.
It sounds like it hasn’t eaten or drank anything since yesterday, I would say that you are going to have to hand feed asap. Try some new born kitten formula from your local pet store and with a syringe feed it. (there are some threads on here that will help you syringe feed a baby properly.) Hopefully I was able to help, and a more experienced member can offer better help.

i should also mention that its not as big as the others

I had just looked under the little pup and it seems like it has bite marks on each of its legs? Is that from the mother?

Possibly, she may be trying to get it to move. I would suggest taking it out of the cage with its mother and siblings, mum isn’t feeding it and it’s just getting trampled on. Move it into a smaller box with fleece and try the massaging methods on its legs.

Goats milk really helped our babies, mummy had 5 and one stillborn. 5 is alot to feed with 2 nipples 😁 When did mummy give birth? Post birth bleeding needs a vet really xx

Alright the bleeding has stopped so i think its ok now but ill see if i can get it checked out. Right now I'm giving the baby guinea pig some rice milk and mashed up pellets
Just found out the gender and i named it Piggu (piggoo)

There is a thread about feeding new borns in the guinea pig guides but can't link on this device.

Hi!

Please see a vet as an emergency if the bleeding is amounting to more 1 teaspoon in the 24 hours after giving birth or if it turns into a steady trickle of fresh blood.

How long since birth? We have got members from Australia to the US - that is a lot of time zones. Have you spoken to a vet?
Babies are provided for the first 24 hours, but if they are not nursing from their mother then it is usually because they cannot process food for some reason; the instinct to drink is generally very strong. Sadly not all babies are born viable; about every fifth birth ends with fatalities even with the best of care. You can gently massage the back legs. :(

DO NOT syringe a new-born - you can kill it that way. You can find the correct way to hand rear pups in the guide below.

Can you please tell us a bit about the background of your pregnancy? Have you removed any boars?

Please take the time to read these guides here. They should answer most of your questions:

I'm afraid i have to feed him from a syringe cause he can’t doesn’t accept it but dont worry i do a tiny drop then wait from him to swallow it then another. But with the mashed up pellets he chews but doesnt swallow he just leaves it in his mouth so then i have to take it out in case he chokes

If there is any other things other than syringes or spoons that i can use please tell me

PLEASE read this guide here; it contains ALL your possible options in terms of what you can feed and how you can give it safely: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk...pport-feeding-orphans-and-tiny-babies.159468/

Thank you so much that thread was a huge help it contained almost all of the information i need! ☺️

Good luck with your poorly baby!
Syringe feeding and keeping Piggu warm may well save his or her life x
Come on little Piggu, you can do it!

I'm sad to inform you all that piggu had just died in his sleep😭
I felt that he was getting colder and figured that it wasn’t warm enough cause i had seperated him from his family so he wouldn’t get squished cause he was so fragile i picked him up and placed him in my hand as he gave out a little squeak and stopped breathing 😭😭 it is truly the saddest moment of my life watching him pass away just like that

I dont know why he had died. Maybe he was too weak or cold? If you think you know why please tell me ☹️

Oh no poor Piggu. He’s resting in peace now over the Rainbow Bridge. At least he is not suffering now x

Please help its urgent
Two of the babies are no longer as active both cant use back legs and the boy keeps flopping on his side i gave them water cause its a bit hot here and the boy is small and the girl was the most active but now she is barely moving please help

The boy has no energy to lift up its head just like little piggu did

I just looked through the internet i think they are both having a heat stroke i will take them to the vet immediately

Where are you based? The forum can only advise and offer support; it's no replacement for a vet. You should take them to the vet ASAP.

We are UK based so no one was awake in the night. I am sorry you lost Piggu and the other 2 pups. As for the other pups and Mum if it’s hot where you are please bring them inside somewhere cooler.

Yeah theyre okay now ill be giving to my older sister whos very good with pets but not yet in about 2 weeks, the two babies that died was because my mum had thought it was a good idea to put them outside in the hot weather which was about 30 minutes before i came home😞
