I have a two week old cavy living with her mother in the same cage. The baby just started to have watery diarrhea; coffee colored but, no smell. The only time you see the diarrhea is when she crawls over the cloth ramp in the cage and it rubs her bottom. She has been eating some of the mothers lettuce so I think that's causing it. I also line the cage with unscented wee wee pads and place paper bedding over it. The baby nibbles at the blue plastic from the pads so I am not sure if that's causing bowle issues too. I have one water bottle in the cage but, I never see the baby drink from it. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You need to take baby (and Mum) to see the vet ASAP. Diarrhoea is serious in a fully grown Guinea pig and an emergency in a baby. If you are in the UK you can find a list of recommended vets here Recommended Guinea Pig Vets Hopefully one is close enough.

I called two 24 hour vets in my area (Long Island, New York) and neither had a exotics on staff tonight. They said it was OK to bring her in the morning. I stopped all veggies and I'm only offering alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets. I introduced. Water bowl and she has drank from it several times; she doesn't seem to get anywhere with a water bottle.

Her (name is Nittany) bottom was dry this morning. I have an appointment at 12pm with an exotics vet.

All is well! It's was just too much romaine lettuce. Our vet gave Nittany a subcutaneous injection with electrolytes and told us to feed Toffee separately. She began pooping pellets one day later.

That’s great news. Hope she continues to thrive.
