last week,we got a new piggy,a baby. She was bright eyed & healthy the first couple days, but now it seems like she can hardly open her eyes & she has little gooey stuff around her eyes? i've bathed them in salt water but it doesn't seem to be working.Does she have an eye infection or is she going blind?

Please have her seen by a vet promptly, ideally tonight or early tomorrow!

It is likely a symptom of a respiratory tract infection (URI), which can kill rather quickly or cause permanent damage if left untreated. Shop and breeder piggies are particularly prone to coming down with it if they have been exposed to the bug where you got them due to the stress of moving into a new home and especially if they are on their own, which they are not wired for.If it is a shop piggy, you can hopefully claim any vet cost back.

update : Silva ( baby piggy ) turned out to have conjunctivitis,so we took her to the vet & she gave her some antibiotics & an eye gel,so hopefully it will clear up soon! Also,i'm quarantining little Silva from my other piggy. But one thing that we forgot to ask the vet is,is it catching to humans?

Glad that you have got a diagnosis and proper treatment! Conjunctivits is not infectious or transmittable, so Silva can stay with her friends and you only need to observe normal commonsense hygiene, i.e. a good hand wash before and after handling guinea pigs.

There are very few things that transmit between humans guinea pigs. The most transmittable is ringworm (fungal), which affects all mammals and can jump species. In this case, you need to observe strict hygiene to prevent becoming infected and infecting others in turn.

Skin parasites are species specific and cannot survive for any length in any other than their host species; at the very worst, you can get a shot term rash, but even that is rare, especially if you catch things early on.

While it is rare and evidence is only episodal, some human cold, flu or norovirus bugs seem to be able to cross over to guinea pigs, in those cases usually with devastating results, so please always use good hygiene and commonsense in interacting as little as possible with your guinea pigs when you are ill.
Kennel cough in dogs can transmit to guinea pigs and kill as an bordetella and pasteurella from rabbits if they are kept together.
