Hi all,

I am collecting my new piggies this evening! we already have 2 boys and are taking on 2 more.
One is 2 years old but the other is about 5 or 6 weeks, I just wondered if there is any special requirements for the baby? I think we have everything we need but just wanted to check we hvent missed anything! or if ther is anyting i should know about caring for a young piggy?
Thanks, I'm so excited!:<>:<>

Young and fast growing guinea pigs need more good quality hay based pellets than fully grown adults (ideally a topped up bowl which you then start reducing very slowly once he has got most of his adult weight between 6-9 months old to about 1 or 1/2 handful per adult piggy per day), so you will have to find a compromise in how much you give. Weigh both boars once weekly.

Otherwise, include one high vitamin C veg in their daily mix (that goes for piggies of all ages). Peppers of all colours, broccoli, parsley and dill have the highest vitamin C content. One slice of pepper is enough, as is a little parsley ot dill.

Brace yourself - the little one is FAST, wiggly and either on the non-stop go or completely crashed out. Babies can squeeze into amazingly small cracks and jump quite high. They are also busy exploring the world and likely to get into all kind of scrapes. He'll learn his ropes from his "daddy" friend.

Piggies need to re-establish their heirarchy in a new territory, so you may see some dominance behaviour.

Have fun!

Sounds like great fun! Cant wait to meet them. Thanks :) Does he need to live indoors? He was ready a bit sooner than expected! we have a hutch outside but can quickly make something up inside if that would be better? What do you think?

I mean he will be indoors in a couple of days, we just planned to use the hutch till the new pen was built.
