Hi,

We are adopting a 6 week old female pig to join our adult pig. It may be a week or two before the newbie arrives as she is currently getting treated for a fungal infection at the rescue.

We have a C&C cage, the coroplast come approx half way up the cubes. Hideys all have two entrances/exits. Hay is in the corner in a cat litter tray, I will cut down the sides so that we have two lower parts for the newbie to get in and out.

What do I need to be aware of to make safe the housing etc for a youngster? Should I replace the cubes/grids with mesh ones or is the coroplast high enough. I'd appreciate advice please.

Just make sure there are no sharp plastic parts. :)
Good luck with the new piggy

I think I read that you need to double up on the grids, ie overlap them so the squares are smaller, in case the babies get trapped? I'm not certain about this, mesh may be better if the holes are much smaller, try googling C & C grids & baby guineas & see what you can find, or hopefully one of the experts on here will soon spot this & answer! :)

I put Chirpy in a c&c cage when she was 7weeks or so. The grids were 1in (2.54cm) gaps and she never got stuck. She will put her front feet on the bars but won't climb over a 12in (30cm) high cage
