I just got a new female pup. She is an black and white Abyssinian American Mix. I believe she is a mix because she only has two rump rosettes and two saddle rosettes. I named her Seraphina because in Greek the name "Seraph" means angel. I was just wondering what advice any of you guys could give me about playing and bonding with Sera. :)

What a lovely name for your piggie. have a look at the guides on the Forum tab, there is one for settling a new piggie x

Aw, she is beautiful. A little girlfriend would not take up anymore space assuming they were in the same cage x

Unfortunately, not at the moment... However, we might be able to add one. It all depends... My living quarters are quite small.

Hi! Seraphina is gorgeous!

One piggy need the same space as two - 2x4 ft minimum. Guinea are group animals and wired to be on their own; they are a ground roaming species that can walk a mile twice daily to and from their feeding grounds. Same sex company is the greatest and most loving gift you can ever make a guinea pig so she has company when you are at school, hanging out with friends and at night. You have a life; without a friend of her own, she won't only have what time you can spare for the next 5-7 years. ;)

What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)

Seraphina will be getting a cage mate soon. I am looking at a Himalayan guinea to share the space. By the way, Sera does not have red eyes but the Himalayan i'm looking at does.

Glad to hear that the beautiful Seraphina is getting a companion.
Have you had experience of bonding guinea pigs?
Your newbie will need quarantine unless coming from a reputable shelter.
Be very careful about checking the sex - you don’t want to wake up one morning to babies.
Have a read through the bonding guides on the forum. These are excellent and will help you be prepared.
We are also here to support you as bonding can occasionally get stressful.
Looking forward to meeting the Himalayan and seeing pictures

So here's the scoop... This Himalayan is coming from a person that has to give her away. This guinea pig has been with another guinea pig but, unfortunately, her companion has been sold. Do you think that it will be hard to bond a baby that has been with a companion before? and no, I have no experience bonding guinea pigs. My first guinea pig, Jasper, was so good with other guinea pigs, he never bit other guinea pigs. I would have had more trust bonding Jasper because I know what his response would be... I'm just a bit nervous with Seraphina because I don't know how she would respond. Even if she is one of the best tempered guinea pigs I know...

Is Seraphina still a baby?
She looks very young in the photo.
She will be desperate for piggy companionship.
It seems a shame that the Himalayan’s cagemate was sold without her.
Piggies do bond after the loss of a cagemate.
When Merab’s cagemate died she was so desperate for companionship that she bonded almost instantly with her new companions - a pair of baby sisters.
It sounds as if the bond has a good chance of working but in the end depends on whether the piggies like each other.
Make sure you follow good practice to make the process easier.
Allow your newbie time to settle into her new environment. If she’s coming from a private home then a vet check is a good idea. My vet doesn’t charge for the registration health check.
Allow them to be aware of each other, if possible put the cages side by side.
When you feel time is right start the bonding- the forum guides are excellent.
We’re here to support you.
Looking forward to hearing about a happy ending

Ok I will see... I get the new gp on Sunday at least that's the plan unless the person I'm getting the guinea pig from backs down.
I'll have to see if everything work out as planned. I'll let u guys know! :)

It’s getting exciting waiting for news.
You do realise we will expect photos almost immediately - you may take your shoes and coat off though before posting pics :))

I have just an itty bitty question... Seraphina has been licking my fingers and I was just wondering what that meant. When she licks my fingers it feels so funny because I can feel her tongue and her teeth, scrape over my finger. I have never had one of my previous guinea pigs do anything so strange.

My piggy is a licker there are quite a few on here. I had two piggies that gave kisses. Consider yourself lucky if that happens.
