Wilma and Fred were at the Vets today, now this was unusual. Wilma is still crying when urinating, and I can feel a tiny substance. Maybe grit, after speaking with my friend, she advised since an X-ray had been performed we should opt to have her urine checked for crystals.

The Vet checked Fred's teeth - bad news they will need done again.

Onto Wilma I didn't even have to suggest the microscope rather than the dip test he immediate said he would check the urine for crystals under the microscope, I love having a vet that know's there stuff :)!

He has to go to another room to check, I was waiting sometime thinking I wonder if this is how long it normally takes. When he comes back he said theres live organisms swimming about in her urine, no idea what it is never seen anything like it he's going to have to check it out. By this point the colour drained from my face, Panic shes really ill!

The Vet then said, Is Fred neutered ---- No

The living organisms, I'm sure you've guessed Sperm! How embarrassing he'd been looking at Sperm under the microscope. He'd obviously forgot Fred wasn't done.

Classic! Unfortunately for Wilma it's not so good as she is now having reoccuring UTI's 2nd one this month. She is on Septrin again, and if its not cleared up. We have to think about Fred being neutered or the Hormonal implant. I have already said Fred won't be neutered as there are to many issues, so looks like I maybe trying that hormonal Implant afterall. Will have to see how it goes and do some research first before I make any decisions.

For those that don't know and read this thinking do they not breed Wilma is spayed!

Although my neutered boy is alot less randy than my un-neutered boars.

Boy/Girl pairings maybe the most stable pairings but are they the best healthwise!

I'm sure your vet will dine out on this story for years to come :))

Relieved to hear Wilma hasn;t got stones..and hope (for Fred's sake) that the septrin clears everything up and she doesn;t have any more problems.

At least we now know why Fred always has a cheeky grin on his face :)).....pants about his teeth though (Hugs)

Oh my what a very funny vets visit, but at least now you know the cause for her UTI's. Poor Wilma and naughty Fred! :))

Well at the vets Wilma did a fresh sample which the vet promptly syringed up, after we left he checked the urine sample. There are crystals in her urine the fact we can feel a tiny lump, which is believed to be a urethra stone.

Will Glenn be able to remove the urethral stone? Phantom had one that Simon removed quickly and easily. Phantom really cried out as he removed it, but was absolutely fine immediately after.

Unfortunately due to the position he was unable to get it out, but as it is tiny. We are going to try and flush it out. Of- course anything changes we'll be back at the vets :)!

oooh what does th ehormonal implant do? never heard of that before :)

Suprelorin which takes approximately three weeks to take effect, and can last upto two years in Guinea Pigs.

What an eventful vet trip. Hope Wilma is ok and Fred too.

So what are the living organisms in her urine, if not what was originally suspected?

I'm not a vet nor am i up on biology but i don't understand how he would think it could be sperm in her urine. How the hell did it get there? If urine is acidic i would've thought any sperm would've been killed off as seminal fluid is alkaline.

I may be way off here but i always thought "spare" spermatoza was absorbed by the body or expelled from the body but not via the bladder.

I do hope the septrin works for Wilma & sorry to read Fred needs another dental, does this mean his teeth are an ongoing issue?

SHEEEEEEESH love :{
Whee are sending Wilma loads of healing wheeeeeeeeky loves and will cross paws for no more horrible UTI's :( XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
and good luck vibes for Fred's toofie trim XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

That was one eventful trip to the vets..... @)

No it is Sperm but Fred isn't the cause of Wilma crying when weeing she has a small Urethral stone.

We'll just need to see, he does have a spur regrowing at presents its not interfering with his eating.

As Wilma is spayed, it is likely Fred hadn't long done the dirty deed, and as there is no were for the Sperm to go it was washed back out with urine. As the sample was fresh I believe the sperm cells hadn't been killed off yet.

Thats my understanding @).

Poor Wilma. Reading this thread though has got me thinking, is there any link with spayed sows being more susceptable to getting UTI/stones etc? Just Sookie has had them on and off since we got her ( she's on a course of septrin at the moment too ) and I think I'm going to have to take her back to the vets as it doesn't seem to be clearing up. Our vet seems to think she might have bladder sludge rather than a stone though. She has suffered from these types of infections far more than any of the other girls who aren't spayed

My two girls both got UTI's last year and now Wilma's current problem. I Think we do have to think with Boy/Girl pairings they are more likely to get Urinary Tract infections (ie Cystitis), it even happens in humans.

Wilma's 'tiny' stone didnot appear on X-ray but was discovered though hands on examination by the vet.
