Hi everyone.

My 5 year old guinea pig Lotta yesterday had a huge sebaceous Cyst removed from her hind leg. She's long hair and I just didn't notice it grow :(
Anyway it was worked it's way into her leg muscles and some muscle was removed when it was removed yesterday. This means she's dragging her leg and very reluctant to move at all.
Does anyone know anything about this? Will she NEVER be able to use that leg?
I see the vet Monday and can ask him - it just didn't occur to me to ask yesterday I was just so pleased she made it though the op. He had told me to prepare for the worst as it was going to last a long time. She was under for nearly an hour.

Sorry, can't help but maybe some of the other experienced keepers have come across this before. Could you perhaps phone the vets for some advice? Hope she makes a good recovery. Healing wishes

Could it just be that it is sore having been operated on and so that is what is making her reluctant to use it?

She had a long term pain killer yesterday and metacam today. I am very happy to report that this evening she is using her leg! I'm so relieved. Yesterday I was questioning what I'd put her through but she's eating LOTS and moving about fine. She has a small cage for a few weeks while she recovers before going back in with her buddies.
Thank you all for your replies. I love my Lotta so much.

Just thought I'd update you all.
Lotta is doing GREAT! Getting her to eat was the hardest part - my vet said length of anaesthetic caused her guts to shut down.
BUT she did eat very small amounts for a couple of days and the found herself feeling much better and has gone from strength to strength. She goes back with her buddies next weekend and I can't wait.
Very pleased for her and relieved that she made it after such a big op.

Oh that is wonderful news. You must be so relieved. He she continues to go from strength to strength.
