Hi all - I'm new to this I'm afraid. I have two brothers who are now about 9 months old. Two weeks ago one of them woke up and his back legs had stopped working which meant he was dragging himself around by his two front paws.

I went to the vets who were hopeless, but advised that they couldn't see anything obviously wrong with him. I separated them for a week, but they looked like they missed each other so put them back together a week ago.

I have been giving him Osteocare for the last 2 weeks, plus swimming and massage and lots of garden time, but no improvement - how long do you give a piggy to recover from this and is there anything else I can do.

He is eating and drinking as normal a bit constipated, but I just clean him out when he is bathed...

Because he lays in his own wee and it is very hot he is starting to get fly eggs when in the garden or his cage luckily I have spotted it but as there is no improvement I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing the right thing...

Any advice appreciated, julie

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry about your problem.

Please see a more piggy savvy vet. Your piggy is too young to suffer from old age overnight back leg paralysis that is caused by a sudden drop of calciu, or by fast developing arthritis.

It is likely either cause by an injury to the spine or (what is not at all easy to diagnose and near impossible to treat in guinea pigs) by a neurological problem of some sort.

Here is our recommended vets locator. Can you get to one of these vets?
