Hi
It's been awhile since I last posted.
Honey and pickle both 3 years old. Last week I had to let Honey go to sleep.
I went to give them their breakfast and Honey was laying on the floor of the cage. She couldn't move her back legs. Rushed her to the vet and she said that her heart rate was only 80 and it should be about 200. Honey just lay there and vet said she was very ill. We took the advice to let her go to sleep.
Honey and pickle were my first ever guinea pigs. I am heartbroken as she was such a character always squeaking as soon as hubby or I got near the cage.
I was worried pickle would be lonely so today I bought peanut.
They are separated at the mo and peanut is in our bedroom. As much as I would love to have them both indoors, hubby is going to build me a shed and will out hearing and lighting in it. It's just for my pigwits and I'm going to get peanuts sister too
The current cage has heating and is under a carport. The shed will be built under it too. As much as I miss honey I just didn't want pickle to be lonely.

Sorry to hear about Honey, it's never easy but I'm sure Peanut will keep you busy!

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry. Sudden acute heart failure is upsetting and there is not much you can do about it; it is like living with a hidden bomb in the body that can go off at any time. I have lost two even younger sows to it over the years.
Please be aware that heart issues like that can be genetically caused. My Telyn's were certainly caused by too many generations of indiscriminate inbreeding as most rescue born babies from her large rescue didn't live long. :(

You are welcome to post a tribute to Honey in our Rainbow Bridge section if or whenever it feels right for you and you would like to share your memories and love with people who understand.

Please make sure that the shed has also got some natural light, but it is a good protected location against the summer heat and the winter rains/storms, and you won't be out in the cold to interact with your piggies!

Here are tips of what you can do for Pickle: Rainbow Bridge Pets

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Pickle definitely needs company and the shed will mean I can have a few pigwits.
Hubby is very good at diy and is going to make an extra door that is covered with wire so main door can be opened without cats etc getting in.
Honey was adorable and I never knew they could have such different personalities. I was very lucky to be blessed with Honey. She joins my beloved little yorkie Alfie at Rainbow Bridge.
Thank you again for your kind words and advice x
