Luna is off back to the vet, calling them today (Nova obviously has to come with, she'll cry the house down without Luna and I have the loveliest neighbours that dont need to hear it).

She went to the vet a couple of weeks ago for a general checkup and nail clipping. She had a crusty eye so the vet said to try saline solution or cold tea to bath the eye, come back in 10 days if it hasn't cleared up. She still has a crispy eye so back she goes! Her skin is dry so it'll be nice to check that it is just dry skin before I moisturise her. I got some lotion from gorgeous guineas for her.

Nova, although being a smelly tramp, has perfect skin. I rarely see her wash or anything. She has a habit of peeing where she poops and then sitting in it 🤢 So she can stay a little smelly but lovely and soft. Keeps the washing machine running with her fleece bits!

She keeps washing off the crusts so its hard to catch a good picture of them.20210408_130715.webp

Does her other eye look squinted like that? Fingers crossed it will clear up this time.

No. Her other eye is defo more open. But her crusty eye isnt normally this closed. I think she's partly closing it waiting for an incoming tea bag 😂 she had a tea eye bath for 10 days now (as instructed by the vet).

She's such a good patient. She sits still for 10 minutes a day for her eye bath. Bless her.

Managed to get a cancellation at 5.20pm today! Glad I can get her seen to sooner rather than later. She's has it since we got her beginning of March. It would come and go at 1st so took her to the vet after a couple of weeks. Crusts would be there for an hour and then gone for 2 days before coming back. Vet recommended washing with saline or bathing the eye with cold tea. I've tried both and it seems to be worse rather than better.

Munch squad is home. I swear I cleaned their cage this morning. Little poop machines!

I have this to use in her eye twice a day for 2 or 3 weeks and use saline to wash the crusties from the rest of her face. Should start looking better in a week.

When the vet touched her Luna screamed like I've never heard her scream before. I forget how much we are our pets trusted person. I can poke her in the eye daily but strangers cannot. 😂

I cleaned my boys hutch this morning, already looks like I hadn’t done anything!

Isathal is an antibiotic ointment, it works well (my lot have it multiple times for hay poke injuries).
I hope she is feeling better soon

Thanks, that's reassuring. She seems fine but having an eye infection for weeks cant be pleasant.

They came to us from what looked like mucky living conditions. The ppls house was lovely but all their cage stuff was covered in poop, some of it mouldy and their water bottle was covered in poop and contained cloudy water with floaters. I feel like if we come out of it only needing to treat an eye infection then we're lucky. Their past owner clearly loved them but they were perhaps too much work.

Unfortunately that is what often happens - people mistakenly believe they (and rabbits) are easy to keep, low maintenance pets which of course couldn’t be further from the truth and people can quickly find themselves out of their depth despite best intentions.
I'm glad they’ve got a good home now!

Here’s to hoping she’s better soon. Sounds like they landed on their paws with you 😊

Thanks guys. We really do adore them. Glad we have them.

With rescues being closed I started the risky business of scouring free ads to rehome someone's unwanted pets. Saw them and a pair of very furry long haired boys, knew I had to take one of them. We knew we'd be an amazing home for the girls and able to give them what they needed, and have always wanted hairless rats/mice and the like.

I'd love more and I'd loved to have taken the fluffy boys too but I think these 2 and their lizard brother Steve are enough. I'd love to make the pair a trio but dont want to disrupt the wonderful bond they have.

Feel like her eye looks better already. She's so funny. She knows the tube is going in her eye before we even start so shuts it, but sits with it wide open soon as the drops/cream is in 😂

Her skin feels better too. Reluctantly gave her bath yesterday to start her skin on a clean slate, then moisturised her. Used gorgeous guineas stuff, lovely company and I easily found the stuff I needed from them.

Bathing was traumatic, she was vibrating terrified throughout. She doesnt particularly enjoy being rubbed with moisturiser either. Her past owner use to bath and moisturise them both monthly. Nova's skin is perfect so I have no intention of bathing or moisturising her as long as she stays like this. Dont intend to bath Luna again and hoping after an initial few days of moisturising she'll not need any more or hopefully rarely.

Dealing with Luna's eye and skin has been a lovely bonding experience with her at least. She's very trusting considering we've been together only maybe 5 weeks now. After treating her eye and moisturising her skin this morning she sat and licked me for a while. 🥰
