Since August poor Bumble has had 2 bladder stone ops and a severe case of Bumblefoot - totalling nearly £2000 in vets bills - now that he is all recovered and back up to fighting weight I noticed a larger swelling on his abdomen when I was doing his daily foot check. So off we go to our specialist piggy vet and he has an ultrasound and needle biopsy. I was in there when it was done and you could clearly see three dark areas which Rachael said were more than likely filled with fluid - although on rare occasions an abscess can split in to 2 or three pockets - he would be very unlucky if it were cancerous - but she has sent 2 slides off to be tested and she will look at the third at the end of surgery tonight and phone me with her diagnosis tomorrow - whatever it is the lump is very large and will have to come off because of the speed with which it appeared - so Bumble and his wives will have to come into the shop with me again for a few days after the op so he can be syringe fed - so will have a real live nativity scene with guinea pigs in the shop next week.

Oh my what a time you are having with the wee soul.

I am sending lots of healing vibes to Bumble and have everything crossed that all will be ok for him. :luv:

Hugs to you at this stressful time as well

Poor you! I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is not malign. It can sadly happen that you get a lot of secondary issues caused by a seriously lowered immune system in the wake of a huge battle for a piggy's life. :(

Results from biopsy were inconclusive - and brain didn't take in all of what Rachael was saying - but sample was reactive for fibre plastic? I think she said - which could indicate spindle cells - she explained the spindle cells as being like tentacles on an octopus that reach out and spread - so if the mass is cancerous the spindle cells will spread it around and these cannot be seen or removed - she says she could go in there and whip out the lumps, but if they are spindle cells then removing the main body of it would make the cancer come back much quicker and aggressively - so the best thing to do is to put him under briefly tomorrow morning and take a tissue sample and get a definitive answer - we should get the results back on Friday,so will have to take it from there ;( - if it is cancer then by not taking it out it will give him longer than if she just went in and took it all out tomorrow - so then I will have to find out about palliative care and if it is the type of cancer that causes him any pain - as he is a happy chappy at the moment.

So sorry to hear this, hugs to you and Bumble. Fingers crossed it's not cancer.

Bumble went under on wednesday so the vet could take a tissue biopsy - it is definitely a tumour not an abscess - I will get the results of the biopsy on Monday.

Results won't be in until tomorrow now as they went off late - vet is chasing it through as a priority - so will have to endure another sleepless night.

Thinking of you both x x

Thinking of you, hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. Waiting for results is so hard, whether for us or them.

Finally got the results - its not cancerous - its a fatty lipoma that has started to go necrotic - so he is booked in for surgery with Rachael on Monday. - am sooooo glad it is not cancerous and he is insured - as the biopsy was £241 - and the previous ultrasound and aspiration was £160 - and Modays op will be in the £250 - £400 range depending on how long the surgery takes.052.webp

Sorry to hear Bumble needs an operation but pleased to hear it's not cancer. Get well very soon Bumble.

Bumble had his op on Monday and came home last night - he had lost a little weight but came running up to the front of his carry case when the vet nurse brought him to me as he knew there would be some coriander there for him - he is eating pooing and peeing well and we have had big cuddles - he has a big shaved flank and a scar that makes him look like frankenpig - the cage has been divided again so that he can get as much rest as possible while healing and he is back on the septrin to nip the bumblefoot in the bud as it had started to come back after his operation last Wednesday - so just need to chubb him up now :)
