My poor guinea pig (Simba) has really been through the ringer for the past few months. When I first got him, he had ring worm. I was given a 30 day supply of an oral anti-fungal medication (Itraconazole). I have about two more days of that and thankfully, the fungus is 99% gone.

However, now Simba has another health problem. He started sneezing and wheezing last week. I took him to the vet the next day to get him checked out. The vet told me his lungs were clear but after examining his nose discharge under a microscope she became concerned. Simba was put on a seven day oral supply of Baytril (0.06). Since then I have moved him to a warmer room and changed his bedding to one that claims it is 99.9% dust free (Clean and Cozy Natural).

Before I left the vets office, she told me to call her immediately if he started having diarrhea. I have been checking his cage everyday for signs. While he is not having diarrhea, his poops are extremely soft. If he steps on them, they flatten. Should I take him back to the vet? What would diarrhea mean? His sneezing is still on going but there is only two days of the medication left. :(

Besides this, everything is normal. He is eating, drinking, and moving as before. I have vitamin C in his water but am feeding him 0 veggies/fruits due to his soft poop.

HELP!

I am very sorry that you are having such a rough time! Ringworm is nasty stuff, but your vet has treated it properly with an oral fungicide, so the chances of it healing off well and completely are very good. It gets worse at first as the hair infected area needs to come out completely (fungal often sits at the hair roots) in order to prevent a return. I would strongly recommend to disinfect everything again thoroughly with a fungicidal disinfectant like F10 - it is currently the best product that also kills fungal spores, unlike virkon.

Soft poos are typical for a piggy on batryil; they will firm up again once he has finished his course. Sometimes, baytril (or any other antibiotics) can cause diarrhea or total loss of appetite, so your vet would have to change the antibiotic. You have got a vet who sounds pretty up to the snuff. ;)
You can support his guts by giving him a pinch of probiotic 1-2 hours after the baytril, either sprinkled on a bit of his favourite veg or - if that is not working - by mixing it with 1ml of water and syringing it in two mouthfuls (=half a small syringe full) to make sure that it doesn't go down the wrong way. Wait until he has swallowed it all before giving the next lot.
