I always get my hay from the range and have never had any problems with it. It is normally very soft and long stranded. This time however it is very short cut, dusty and course. I put in my piggies cage a large mountain of hay that they burrow into and I am worried that this time they will poke their eyes on it. They probably won't be able to burrow in it I don't expect because the pieces are so small. I'm debating taking it out but I hope I'm just worrying too much needlessly. I won't be able to get anymore now for another week and I know they will be devastated if they haven't got a pile of hay to play in! What should I do? I hope their hay won't always be like this. I was wondering could it have been a batch from the summer when the weather was so hot? It's quite green though so I'm not sure.

I should have mentioned that when I said about taking the hay out, I do have 2 hay racks full of Timothy hay. I didn't want anyone to think I'd remove hay completely

I bought some of the same for the first time a few weeks ago and when I opened it I was very disappointed. At first I thought that I had got what I had paid for, saving a little but the quality was the saving from their side.

I then got some Timothy from p@h and noticed straight away that the quality of that bag was far different from my previous bag of Timothy. Looks like the hot summer batches are now in the shops, hopefully later batches will start to flow very soon to their shelves.

As the previous person said, so long as it smells okay then it should be fine :0)

I used to buy the hay from The Range but I stopped about 2 years ago because it became more like straw than hay. As long as your piggys have plenty of hay to eat they should be fine.

It has been ok up til now. Very disappointed in this batch. As long as they don't get poked by it the poor little things. They're going to miss tunneling through it :soz:
