Hi! The guinea pig I got in novemeber last year isn’t quite settled in yet. He never lets me hold him or pet in and always is hiding in his house. He bit me tonight and drew blood. (I cleaned the wound as you’re supposed to) Any tips?

Sorry to hear you are having problems with handling your guinea pig.
Guinea pigs are prey animals and can take a lot of work to settle.

You may want to start by reviewing some of the tips in our guides:

Even if you have had your guinea pig for a while, it is never to late to start trying to make him feel more relaxed around you.

How big is your cage and does your guinea pig live inside or outside?
Does you guinea pig have a friend?
Does he have places to hide in his cage?

If you can give us some more information I am sure you will receive lots of helpful suggestions.

I assume that this is he single you were hoping to bond with the little guy who is now back at petsmart having his leg looked at.

Have you been weighing and health checking him regularly? Hiding away all the time and then biting could be a fear or pain response. Not allowing you to pet him isn't unusual for a prey animal as you are a big scary predator. Only two of my four will let me touch them in their hutch and even then it's limited to nose rubs and chin rubs only

He’s in a cage (I don’t remember the brand name) that’s a few inches bigger than a midwest. He has plenty of places to hide in this house, he’s male, and yes he is that single. Yes, I’ve also been weighing him every week and clipping his nails and he’s completely healthy.
