Erm.. 1 ft x 1ft per piggie for housing?
My comanche is a ft long when he sprawls out!
have You contacted them? x

not much point i have emailed them repeatedly about why my plants keep dying(but thats another story) and not once have i gotten a replygrrrrgrrrrgrrrr,i juts dont know how they can get away with saying such wrong advice xx

maybe if a few of us can bombard them with message they might listen?i just know that alot of people use this site and can just imagine how many people are doing the wrong thing because of it:(

I've just send some comments as well, hopefully they will make a few changes! :)

all o need to say after reading that is WOOD SHAVINGS.....um everyone knows thats a big no i think they should be educated before printing a care sheet like that as it is SO wrong.OOOOH it gets me so angry.

just to let you know i was so angry i email them to ask to amend ALOT of the information on their so called fact sheet and advised alot of the information could lead to health problems.

i think this is being blown out of proportion, unless it was changed before these posts were made.

lettuce (small amounts)
this is a basic care guide, they're listing recommended things to feed them rather than a list of everything not to feed them.

Each guinea pig should be allowed a minimum of 30cm2 space (12" x 12")

Sawdust can cause respiratory problems if inhaled
they've put a warning up about sawdust. i use sawdust, always have done, and my pigs are fine. i've never heard of it being desperately dangerous towards pigs, and i know other people on here use it, so i don't see why this is that much big a deal.

this is a very basic care guide but it's not exactly an appalling one. i don't understand why people are getting so angry about it? if you want to suggest a link for them, i'd send them guinealynx.com; i doubt they'd be interested in having TGPF on there if you're all flaming them =\

Rabbit or guinea pig pellets are available at good pet stores

Guinea pigs shouldnt ever have rabbit pellets!

Guinea pigs need fresh, clean unsprayed grass every day to supply vitamin C which the body cannot store. An alternative to grass could be hay or lucerne.

this to ma states that one or the other is fine, when in actual fact piggies should always have hay.

They can also be fed any or a mixture of the following:

Cabbage (small amounts), apples, cauliflower leaves, lucerne hay or

Lucerne hay is not recommended unless the piggy is young or a sow is pregnant.

They can also be fed any or a mixture of the following:

Cabbage (small amounts), apples, cauliflower leaves, lucerne hay or chaff, celery, tops or stalks (washed),

No mention that the stringy bits on celery can be unsafe

lettuce (small amounts),

once again no mention of ice berg lettuce being bad

Hard-dried wholemeal bread makes a change and is good for their teeth, as well as rolled oats or hulled oats

What reason is there to say that piggies can have bread, they should be eating hay, pellets, veg, fruit, grass

Guinea pigs are almost too easy to breed: females can become pregnant again within 12 hours of giving birth

my understanding is that pregnancy can happen sooner than 12 hours afterwards

Short-hairs usually have four babies per litter and long-hairs, two.

i never knew breed determined numbers

Each guinea pig should be allowed a minimum of 30cm2 space (12" x 12").
i think this is much to small

Guinea pigs will happily live by themselves but if buying two ensure they are both females as two males can fight, and the alternative is a population explosion.

guinea pigs majority of the time love friends and are not at there happiest on there own,and as stated many people on here have two males so its downright wrong to make boars out to be hard to house together

These are easy-to-keep pets for almost any situation as long as they are protected from predators

i dont think piggies are easy keep, they take alot more than this site makes out

I think this site is very wrong and that is the reason i posted it

On wood-based bedding:

http://www.guinealynx.info/bedding_wood.html

Sawdust most commonly available in the UK, I believe, is pine. The phenols present in pine bedding which gives it that oh-so-clean smell can be damaging to the pigs. I believe they're also the same phenols used in disinfectant sprays - you wouldn't want your nose next to a spray... why make your pig root through something giving off those same phenols.

If anyone disputes that inhaling dust constantly might not be damaging... wtf.

Remember, pigs are silent complainers. I'm fed up of the "my pigs are/were fine..." argument for a particular care because of this. It's a shame animals can't speak English and don't complain.

On the bright side - if you air pine bedding for a few days, it will reduce the phenols present and make the bedding safer for use.

While you're correct that all of these points are inaccurate, I'm not sure that the answer is to have a forum spam that web site. If they get wise as to where the sudden influx of comments has come from (an angry forum) then TGPF could be liable for flaming/spam.

i didnt know that could happen, maybe i shouldnt have bothered with this thread its not like i can stop incorrect info anyway:(

You posted this thread 'cos you care about the guineas, as we all do. I'm not overly knowledgeable about the interweb either, I didn't realise TGPF could get into trouble if a few of us emailed this website. We just want the best care for the guins.

If they receive a huge amount of comments in a short space of time it can be classified as them being spammed or flamed. If TGPF can be found as the source of that then we could get into trouble. The same goes for it happening to any site from any community.

However, there is nothing wrong with raising concerns against a company. Have you called them or hit the "big boss" on the nose with your concerns? Perhaps create an alternative - correct - version of their flyers or write the corrections.

I studied computing law this year at uni. It's amazing what you can get "done" for if the other party has enough money.

Don't be embarrassed! You're a good person and your intentions were extremely good and well placed. The corrections you made ARE right and they ARE in the wrong for circulating incorrect/inaccurate information on guinea pig care. They should be ashamed of themselves!

:)

i dont think its even possible to get hold of he person in charge,its not like they just listen to people,just i have tried to stop this sort of thing before and it has failed everytime thats why i suggested emailing them because i thought it might grab there attention:{

Mallet + h.... *cough* :D

Also - I might have overestimated how many people may e-mail them. A FEW people raising the alarm shouldn't be a problem but a massive - insanely massive - number would.
