hubbys just said he heard on the news that this summer is going to be over 100 degrees, now some of you may remember I lost my darling dog Maxs brother Charlie last july he had strokes caused by the heat our vet said he along with many other animals died becasue of it , so I am now worrying myself silly what about max he will be 15 in oct? ( fingers crossed) my pigs are in sheds yes i do have air con and fans but am so worried sorting out mIck shed yesterday I found some big floor tiles they have been saved for the pigs much to hubbys amusment they can lie on them as they are cooler and just brought a greenhouse how will I cope in the heat? maybe garden in the middle of the night ::) max is going to be lying in a paddling pool all day under the gazebo, making plans now so I am ready for it

Start saving plastic containers for ice packs. I am going to get a gazeboo. I hate the heat in the summer.

do you mean like milk bottles the plastic type with screw lids and lemonade bottles ?

What about the marble slabs that P@H sell for Chinchilla's, are they any good for pippy's cool too?

I Just shavings in there bed in the day time and hope they stay in there bedrooms where its shading. 0:)

ill probably keep my piggies in shed (if we move house by then) or the garage with the fans on them :)

No thanks to us humans... causing global warming :(

Sadly our new cultures and way of life is now affecting the planet, were basically driving ourselves to exstinction.

Yer but nobody else can see that... either that or were to lazy to do anything >:( lol
If we all recycled and walked rather than driving maybe we would be okay! those poor polar bears... their ice is melting :(

sea levels are rising, and soon some costal towns will be the mermaid's town's. oh dear.

yes Michelle and ice cream tubs are great for the runs my piggies used to love laying on them last year ;)

OMG! I am so feeling dread at the hot temps being predicted.

My shed is in a nice shady spot but even so with an air con unit running it still gets warm. The pigs and buns I dont worry too much but the chins give me real nightmares. Anything over 20+ deg and they start to suffer.

With temps of 100 deg :o PANIC!

I direct the aircon on the chin cage but with working so far away from home, I worry about if something has happened to the air con or the chins. :-\.

Its SUCH a worry.

maybe us piggy owners need to mvoe to the Islands in Scotland they always seem cool Mick was talking about the Falkland Islands the other day but said its too cold, maybe not after all

Oh No not another hot summer, I hate the heat, I just suffer throughout, anything over 25 degrees and I'm in trouble.
Had enough trouble keeping guineas cool last year. But managed it.

Oh Michelle you don't want to move to the Falklands, my husband has been there with the army and it is bl--dy freezing there, very desolate with loads of penguins,There are still mines in the fields left from the war.And it's also the other side of the world.A very long flight.
He hated it.

Sorry to say but as BW said we got a stinker of a summer so you guys will probably have one too :(
I wish you all the very best :-*
Duke was lucky cause he's an indoor piggie, but he still struggled after a few days of continuous heat because it got hot downstairs too, i ended up opening the door to under the house for him plus he barely had any hay or bedding otherwise he always hides in it ::) I also put a fan on downstairs for him too, but mainly i syringed with the 1mm syringe extra fluids everyday, a mixture of fruit slushy one feed and then 2 feeds of water approx. 4-5 syringes at a time, this kept him well hydrated at all times. Had to do extra washing of towels tho cause they were always wet ;D ;D

I was being lectured by a friend in July 2005 about changes (moreso about me changing my life) but anyway she told me that she believes that since the last "age" was a Ice Age our next age will be a hot one. I remember my Dad telling me that where we are used to be dense thick forests and the planet did used to be different.

I'm not with it this morning but only saying what I was told..

OMG ifear for my chinchilla the most! :'( looks like my long haired guienas will become shorthaird

my long haired piggys have already had a good trim, they look so different fudge kept twisting around and the hair was twisting round my fingers little madam, but got it done in the end

AIR CONS! i need them for the chinchillas anyway so IF my parents let me have a pair of guinea pigs then they will have an air conditioned room as well, and so will i!

Also when they are out in their run use the tips that are on here

well the 2 runs i got today have a big shady bit and i can put blacks over the rest to keep the sun of them and got them lots of hidy holes

aslo 3 of the cages are under a careport in the shade and the other cage i just out side the careprot but still in the shade

will make sure there have lots of cold water - I'm going to fill bottles up with water over ight to make ti etxa cold for them to drink and put some in the feazza to fezz them up so have can lie next to them

Btw do you live in england?

100 degres :-\

fahrenheit not celsius maybe? ;)

gah i hate the heat too..gunna die :(

Yes it will be fahrenheit, my converter tells me thats 37.7 degrees, thats hot, prepare the piggies, get any bottles that hold water, preferabley BIG containers to last a little longer, freeze them (and freeze plenty of them) use like ice-cream tubs 2 litre bottles, milk cartains etc...

This is why I'm in a real dilemma about what to do with my guineas. They're all inside at the moment but usually live loose in a shed, but it's just too hot, even this week it was stuffy. I'm tempted to keep them inside and just put them out in hutches/runs during the day but when it's hot, to keep them in. Our house is very old and keeps very cool most of the time.

I just think of all those animals who haven't got caring people like everyone on this forum.

I know what you mean but at least if we see this happeing we can now report them as the new law will cover it, my hose pipe is going to be spraying the roofs of the sheds as well,

I'm not too fussed myself. There in laods of shade down bottom of garden! And if they do get oh so hot they can go in the garage were its freeeeezing even in sumer o_0
