Bad News

I read a post on here earlier tonight and thought I'd try Maisie with it too - Emeraid IC Herbivore

I've decided to stop giving her the Thyronorm completely as she absolutely hates it, and fights me every time. Now I know she doesn't have loads of time with me, I want to keep her as happy as I can. According to the vet, the difference that it'll make by not giving it, is the kidney disease will progress at a faster rate and whilst this upsets me too, I don't want her stressing out with me forcing her to have the Thyronorm either. Another side effect of leaving it off will be that her metabolism will speed up and she won't be able to get as many nutrients from the food she does have, hence why I'm thinking of the Emeraid. I want her to be as comfortable and as relaxed as possible (she is on Metacam twice daily and will remain on that now). Does anyone have any thoughts on this please? What would you do?

Can't offer any advice but wanted to know that I am thinking of you and your piggy. You are doing a great job of caring for her. xx

Bumping this ...

Bumping again for some advice please.

When we have life-limited pigs, here at TEAS, I take the route that enables them to have the happiest, but not necessarily the longest time. It's all about a life worth living and I do whatever will make it good for them.

Thank you - I just wanted reassurance that I was doing the right thing for Maisie.

@Janey in your shoes I would do what you are doing. I am a firm believer that quality in life is far more important than quantity. I've not used Emeraid but if Maisie likes it I would give it to her.

We’ve not had it before but read on here that it was tasty and calorific, so I think it’d help her.

I am so sorry for poor Maisie but it sounds like you're doing a fantastic job with her. Like others have said, it's all about the quality of life and not the quantity.
When my Ena and Erika had lymphoma, I let them eat what they wanted and gave them everything they asked for. Erika was a big girl but as I didn't have much time left with her, I couldn't see any harm in making her last few weeks happy ones. I even gave her more metacam than she probably needed as she loved the taste

You are both in my thoughts xx

Thanks Claire. It’s reassuring to know I’m on the right track as I haven’t experienced this before - where I’ve known one of my piggies is terminal. Sorry to hear about your two as well, it’s heartbreaking when you get that kind of news xx

You are definitely on the right track :)

Thank you. I had another piggy, Emma who was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour last May. Due to her age, we made the decision not to operate and to let her enjoy whatever time she had left. I followed the same principle as with Ena and Erika and Emma enjoyed another 10 months of being pampered before I lost her due to something unrelated.

Cherish everyday that you have with her. That's what I did xx
