ok so i am sat at work listening to major thunder and lightning.

And thinking ok so guinea pigs are not going outside in their run tonight. What do you do with them. Cant have them completely free in living room as i have a dog and 2 cats (who keep sizing them up for lunchies lol).

How does everyone deal?

Can you bring the run indoors? Or shut a room off completely for an hour or two?

i guess i could bring the run indoors but since it has been staked in the ground its likely to bring half the garden in with it lol and i have no safe rooms to let them have free roam.

Its times like this i wish i had a c&c for indoors

:(

maybe the guinea pig fairy will get me one.

Can they not run around the kitchen or bathroom? Easier to clean up the mess then aswell.

mine come in and run around the hall, the close all the doors leading to the hall .... they love it :)

Our two have free run of the living room, its laminate flooring and we put the dog in his bed in the kitchen for a while

I have spare C&C grids which I connect together and let my piggies run around in. Otherwise, the pigs have floor time in the hallway which is pretty sparse.

C&C sound like a good idea but are they doggy and cat proof?
truthfully if i had my dog or cats inside and the piggies needed a run i would just put the dog and cats outside for an hour or two it won't hurt them x

KingBoris - C&C grids are cat/dog proof if you build a cover on top of them and make sure the connectors/zip ties are secure. Obviously, though, your cat/dog shouldn't be left unsupervised with the pen, in the same way they shouldn't be left unsupervised with a normal cage.

I wouldn't really recommend putting dogs or cats outside in the thunder storm, though :)

ok i understand i just don't think a CC grid would stop stronger breeds thats all i have a bully cross and i wouldnt trust it,
my dogs apart from the little one are all outside,if they have secure housing and bedding then there is no problem,i mean there ancestors didnt have owners to let them in,i just don't see it as an issue dogs are a bit tougher than what people think x

Cages won't stop stronger breeds, either. If a dog is very determined to play with your guinea pig, I wouldn't ever recommend leaving that dog on the same side of the door as your guinea pig's cage; whether it's a C&C cage or not.

Here's a Q&A on C&C cage safety if you're interested. In the gallery there are also examples on how other members have cat/dog/child proofed their C&C cages.

As for the strength of a C&C cage: C&C cages can, if properly maintained, be used to store heavy loads and in my experience can also with stand angry-bunny attacks and people sitting/falling onto them. They can be quite sturdy if you don't cut corners (so, make sure the connectors are on properly and don't skip putting a connector in required positions). :)
