Morning Everyone,

I've just had the boys out for their weekly weigh in and noticed that Bailey has a sore "toe" It is the middle "toe" on his back left foot. I took some photo's and just wanting a bit of advice really, does anybody know what this is? Should I get a vets appointment for him? Can I treat this at home?

Here are some pics:

It isn't bothering him at all, he is walking and even running on it fine. He is eating well, popcorning and seems his usual self. It didn't bother him when I touched it or pressed on it gently.

Thanks for any advice. x

Watch and wait for another day, possibly a piece of hay cut the skin. If it is not improving by tomorrow then investigate further, many conditions "cure themselves".

I agree that it needs to be monitored, I wouldn't intervene quite yet as you say he's not affected by it at the moment.

Saffron had a similar problem, swollen middle toe, when she was very young. The local vets (at the time) tried Baytril with no luck whatsoever; when Vedra examined her she pointed out it was clearly a fungal infection that had got into the nail bed, the telltale sign was that Saffron had some flaky skin on her foot. Some miconazole cream (Daktarin, for example) was all that was needed.

Thank you both. I'll keep an eye on it over the weekend then, it just looks really sore and a little swollen, it looks like it should hurt if you know what I mean. But as I said Bailey doesn't even appear to have noticed it so hopefully he will be ok. Thanks again. x
