bald behind ear

is it normal for a piggie to have thin hair behind their ear?

Yes! As long as the bald areas behind the ears are the same on each side, they are normal. Guinea pigs use the blood flow through the ears to control their body temperature, so they want to keep the area touching the ears as free of insulating hairs as possible.

Please have a read of this guide here; it talks you through the whole guinea pig body so you can learn what is normal and what not: Guinea pig body quirks

I learnt that useful fact when I took a piggy to the vet in a mild state of panic. It’s nice to be reassured that this is normal.

Even Skinny Pigs have that bald spot behind the ear. (I kid you not) It manifests as paler, thinner skin.
