Jerry had a really wet chin yesterday. I assumed it was just from drinking from the bowl but today after bathing him I noticed a bald patch on his chin and side. Doesn't look sore or anything just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Hi!

Please have him vet checked; it could be ringworm (highly infective and transmittable fungal skin infection). In that case, good hygiene in combination with effective medication is key. (Note that creams will not prevent spores from spreading and causing further outbreaks, not to mention a high risk of infecting yourself).

Please accept that we can only make educated guesses but that we cannot replace a hands-on examination, nor is nay of us qualified. Please do NOT home treat on spec and do not treat before a vet visit. At the best, you can make a diagnosis near impossible and at the worst your treatment is ineffective and is prolonging your piggies' suffering and - in the case of ringworm - can create a mess that can come up again and again.

Please see a vet tomorrow and have both the bald patches and the teeth checked (including any premolars and molars at the back).

What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)

I agree with @Wiebke - a vet check is needs to check the teeth and the bald patches. Hope he gets on ok. Please let us know.
