Hi

Tonight I have noticed that annies right elbow and part of her leg are bald. The skin is perfectly healthy underneath, I can't see or feel any growths and I've extended/manipulated the leg and she shows no pain. The only thing I can think of is that she currently has a teddy bear in with her as she lost her cage mate recently and she's lies on its back leg, mainly on the side that she's lost her hair. I'm wondering if this has rubbed away the hair.. is this a possibility?

I can take some photos tomorrow

Is that near her shoulder? Sorry - I'm not good at working things out. Is she scratching or gnawing? It looks like the hair has been broken off. Does she have any other patches? Is her skin pink anywhere? Could it be mites? @helen105281 what do you think?

Sorry the pictures not great it's just above her elbow. No other patches and I've had a really good feel and nothing abnormal. No crusty or flaky skin anywhere the hair just feels spikey where it's missing where it would seem she's either barbered it off or rubbed it off. . Whenever I check on her she is lying on this side on her teddy.

Hi just bluw up the photo, it has the aperance of barbering, but it is to close to the head for her to self barber so lt will probabaly be mites

just had another look , she posibaly could get there with her teeth

is she subdued at all ? could be self barber due to stress of loosing a cage mate

she has no other pigs in her cage ?

I think it could be mites, best get her to the vets for a check. If not mites then something is irritating her. I am not sure that the teddy is making the hair rub off. Does the hair look broken half way down the shaft? does the skin seem fluoresced at all?

Ok thanks, I'll get her checked. She was treated with ivermectin as routine recently so that's upsetting. Could it be from her hay? She's on her own at the moment but we were going to try and bond her to another couple if the other lady will allow.

Mange mites would not be from the hay, as they are under the skin but hay mites could be. You would be able to see them though.
