bald patch - is this normal?

Hi, my girl Eddy is the guinea in the photo, approx. 6 yrs old. Just noticed a bald patch, not red or sore. No other patches evident. No recent ruckus with cage fellow. Has anyone experienced this?20181104_095904.webp1541326054229403871382685991574.webp
 
It's not normal unfortunately but could be a sign of ovarian cysts which are very common with older sows. Some cysts can be fairly harmless and not cause any issues while others can cause discomfort. My last one that I knew of that had cysts was leaking urine causing sores on her feet and lady parts. The vet opted for an emergency spay as they were quite large. However these days there are alternatives such as a hormone injection which can reduce the size of the cysts. I would take her to a cavy savvy vet sooner rather than later while injections etc could still be an option.
 
Don’t panic. It’s not an emergency. But thinning hair on the flanks is often hormonal in piggies. However in view of her age I would get her checked out by the vet just to be sure there’s nothing else going on. She’s a beauty. Please let us know how you get on.

Eddy is doing well, we took no action on the hormone balding as she has an underlying respiratory issue, I bought a humidifier to put olbas oil drops in and she's been ace since. As she is not in pain and any action would only be to get the hair back we left her be, keeping an eye on her. Thank you xx
