Hi! My new piggie Edamame has just turned six weeks old and I spotted a bald patch on him this morning. On closer inspection it’s a circle shape, with one scab-like raised bump. The fur looks like it’s growing back already. I know it wasn’t there three days ago but it could have appeared any time since then

He’s booked in for a vet check on Tuesday (the next available routine appointment) but I’m debating whether to ring in the morning to get him seen sooner. No signs of anything on Tofu (Ed’s cage mate) yet but I’m keeping an eye on them both

Ed came from a reputable rescue, we’ve had him for three weeks. I’m worrying about parasites but could this also just be barbering? He’s showing no other symptoms, happily zooming and popcorning, and no pain when I touched the bald spot

Thanks for any advice!

It doesn't look bald, as in fallen our hair, more like barbered as in bitten down hair with a stubble still there to me.
Barbering (Eating Hair)
New Guinea Pig Problems: Sexing & Pregnancy; URI, Ringworm & Parasites; Vet Checks & Customer Rights
Ringworm: Hygiene, Care And Pictures

However, I cannot say what is going on. A hands-on vet examination may help. It is not an emergency, though.

Thank you very much! That’s a relief. I’ll keep his Tuesday appointment just to check with the vet there’s nothing sinister going on

He seems totally fine in himself, and Tofu has no signs of anything going on, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on them both until we can be 100% sure 😊
