Morning all :-) My young boar Toffee seems to have a bald patch on his back. He doesn't share with any other pigs and lives next to his friend Syd with a divide. I haven't noticed him scratching and it doesn't look sore. Does anyone know what this could be and what I should so? Thanks!

My first thought would be mites, that's the most common cause of bald spots. Take him to the vet because he'll need to be treated with ivermectin if it is.

if not mites sometimes a lack of vit c can cause bald patches? hope he gets better soon

Hmm I think I'll have a closer look then. One of my others has had mites before from the hay. Thanks guys! Vets again I expect!

maybe a fungal infection on his skin? my boy has this at the moment but it is slowly clearing up with treatment :)

Thanks for your replies. I've now noticed it on another piggy I have in a separate cage. The other two pigs I have are short-haired and don't seem to be showing any similar patches. I've got ivermectin winging its way to me and I'll treat them all just in case.
