Bald Patch..

I’ve got 2 females who are nearly 2 years old. They are both long haired. They did live in a hutch outside until I moved them back to their indoor cage a month or so a go.

I just returned from holiday and noticed Gabi has a bald spot on the back of her neck, quite large but clean with no sores etc.

They get on but they’ve been very vocal and in the mood with each other lately, not seen any scrap though.

She rubs around the cage a lot,but she’s also very long haired and I’ve noticed some black specks in her fur which might be to do with the hay?

I just want to know she’s ok..

Please have her vet checked for hay mites. Bald patches can have different causes, so it is important that you do not home treat on spec, but get an appropriate diagnosis and tackle the problem correctly and with good quality products.

The black specks could be mites, the bald patch could be her rubbing or nibbling if it is mites and she is irritated.

My girl Guinea is also long haired, she has a perfect round bald patch on her back with no scabs, they have all just over come mites. The only thing I can thing of with mines bald patch is that she has either been in a scrap with her little girl, or her little girl has been pulling at her mum's fur. I can't see how it can be mange as it's only in one place and she has no scabs or dry skin.
