sorry she is 5 months old treated for lice 6 weeks ago with johnsons insectical shampoo, there look like a few small red bits like pinpricks.

my boy has been sctratching to, but he just has a few flaky patches, i wondered if mayb the shampoo was to harsh on their skin.

They need to be shampooed every week for 3 weeks to kill all the lice/mites that have hatched since the last treatment. I find that shampoo very effective, I dilute the 5 ml dose with 30 ml ish of water - pour half over the wet pig, lather, rinse, repeat shampoo with second half, lather, rinse and rinse again. I usually rub it up my arms too then rinse, just in case some of the little have escaped!

I shampoo every 6-8 weeks to prevent reoccurance or you can use a spot on treatment - but you must leave it 3 days after a bath before applying.

thanks i did do them once a week for 3 weeks i cant see any more lice. blinkin things.:)

Were going through the same thing with our hairy pigs right now! Good luck getting rid, I hope she gets better soon :)

Did you treat her cagemates too? They will all need doing or else they reinfest each other! If she doesn't improve after another shampoo it may be fungal - though from the pic I think it's mites.

Has she been treated with ivermection for possible mites?:)

not yet just ordered some neem shampoo from gorgeous guineas to treat them all, it bugs me that i cant see any lice.

yes i did treat all 8 of them was not fun but i did :)

They are so stubborn to get rid of. were on our second bottle of lice n easy now, and cesar will need doing as he has static lice :(

It sounds like you need to treat for mites (you can't see them) - I don't think the GG shampoo kills them. Xeno 450 is widely available as a spot on treatment, or the Johnsons shampoo again - it is effective if used correctly. I prefer to use Ivomectin for a large group as it's hard work bathing that many in one go and treating their cage too!

she is off to the vets in an hour will let you know, she now has 2 bald patches one either side of her bum :(

she has mites :( so we are going to treat her with Beaphar Anti-Parasite Spot-On For Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Rats & Ferrets.

bless her. lets hope it works
